- The About overlay now shows the FULL channel About (description, external links,
country, language, topics, keywords) — the same content as the detail page's About
tab, via a new shared ChannelAboutContent component (reused by ChannelPage + AboutCell)
- AboutCell fetches the channel detail ON DEMAND on hover (shared [channel,id] react-query
cache with the channel page), so the list stays light; the overlay is interactive
(scrollable + clickable links) via a small hover-bridge, and closes on page scroll/resize
- Center the content: max-w-7xl -> max-w-[96rem] on the channel tables + header, so the
wider About table stays symmetric with the header (mx-auto handles the responsive centering)
- Topic chips are display-only for now; the future search epic makes them clickable
Lift the onboarding wizard's open state, first-login auto-open effect, and the
wizard render itself out of App into WizardProvider. Feed, Channels, and
SettingsPanel trigger it via useWizard() instead of an onOpenWizard prop; App
and ChannelPage drop the prop plumbing. First step of S6b.3 — removing the
per-module props that block a uniform registry render. (Platform S6b.3)
Replace ~48 magic z-index values (z-10..z-[9999] + 2 inline zIndex) with named
tailwind zIndex tokens (base/menu/chrome/paneltab/panel/rail/overlay/popover/
tooltip/tuner). Values are UNCHANGED — a rename, not a renumber — so layering is
identical; the names give one source of truth for the stack.
Opening a channel hardcoded includeLive:true (+ normal on / shorts off), so a
channel view silently showed live/upcoming even when the feed had them off. Seed
the content triad from the global feed once at mount; the channel toolbar can
still toggle them locally.
Reworks the channel detail per UAT: instead of the banner scrolling away
and a sticky sub-header (which felt odd to scroll and needed an opaque bar
that clashed with the design even at rest), the ENTIRE chrome — banner,
identity, tabs, toolbar — is fixed and only the video grid scrolls.
Mechanism: ChannelPage wraps its whole chrome in <PageToolbar> so it
portals into the shell's fixed band (like the feed toolbar); the
channelScoped Feed portals its toolbar into a slot at the bottom of that
chrome. No sticky, no opaque bar — the chrome is transparent over the page
bg because nothing scrolls under it (the band sits above the scroller).
E2E updated: the channel chrome (title + toolbar) stays at a fixed
viewport position while the grid scrolls. Suite 15/15, tsc clean.
Generalise the fixed-chrome pattern to the channel detail page: the
banner + identity now scroll away, while the tab row and the channel
feed's toolbar stick to the top as a sticky sub-header — only the video
grid scrolls.
Mechanism: PageToolbarSlot (the toolbar portal target) is now an exported,
overridable context. ChannelPage provides its own sticky sub-header node
as the target, so the channelScoped Feed portals its toolbar up next to
the tabs instead of into the shell's top band. Feed always portals its
toolbar now (the slot decides where it lands).
Also: the page scroller now fades only its BOTTOM edge — the top is
bounded by the fixed/sticky chrome, so a top fade only bit into it.
E2E: adds a lock that the channel tabs/toolbar stay pinned while the
banner scrolls away; suite 15/15 on :5173, tsc + knip clean.
The channel page rendered its own PageScroller as a separate App branch —
the source of the app's two <main>s. Make it a headerless/rail-less
PageShell config (its banner scrolls from the top) so there is exactly
ONE page scroller. Verified: single <main>, banner scrolls, in-page and
browser Back both return to the feed; E2E 11/11.
VideoCard/PlayerModal read openChannel from useNavigationActions (the memo'd
VideoCard subscribes to the STABLE actions context, so a page/channel change
no longer re-renders it); NavSidebar/Header read page/setPage; ChannelPage
reads closeChannel; NotificationsPanel reads setPage. App sheds the matching
props, and Feed/VirtualFeed no longer thread onOpenChannel at all.
Locks the five flows the refactor must not break (feed, channel, player,
settings, nav) so later sprints can prove they changed nothing. Adds a thin
data-testid layer and a dedicated seeded non-demo account; the suite runs on
the baked :8080 stack (authoritative) or :5173. No product-behaviour change.
The subdued edge-fade the rail and side panels use now hints at more content on
the page scroller too, which the feed, the channel page and Plex all scroll
inside. Both <main>s move into one PageScroller so the invariants they share —
the load-bearing scrollbar gutter, and the bar staying visible because hiding it
would zero that gutter — are stated once.
Two fixes the hook needed first: it set fresh state on every scroll event, which
above a page tree would re-render it per frame; and it watched a single child
captured at mount, so a lazy page swapping out its Suspense fallback left the
observer on a detached node and the fade frozen at its pre-load value (measured
on the Plex page: no bottom fade over a 3119px list).
The view mode moves out of Settings into a switcher next to sort, on the
feed and channel pages alike. It leaves the Settings prefs draft for its
own eager save: a toolbar click must not mark that page dirty and trip
its leave-page guard.
lib/feedView.ts owns the vocabulary and maps the old grid/list prefs
forward on read, so nobody's saved choice is lost.
Pick any number of channels; they OR together and every other filter applies
across the lot — "the last week's unwatched from these three".
`channelId`/`channelName` are replaced outright by `channelIds: string[]`, no
legacy reader (standing rule: no back-compat unless asked — a saved view written
against the old field simply loses its channel filter). The wire and the share
URL move with it: repeated `channel_ids` params, `?channel=a,b`. Backend ORs via
`Video.channel_id.in_()`; the count endpoint shares the same params object.
Two things the migration exposed:
- SavedViewsWidget fed DB blobs straight into serializers that now index an
array — the FeedFilters type says nothing about what an older build wrote, so
the blob is coerced where it enters. It white-screened the app before this.
- Chips carried channelName to label themselves. Without it they resolve names
from the channel cache, so they now fall back to the id, not a shared
"This channel" that would render N identical chips while the cache loads.
Channel page: the actions sat in the header's top-right corner, a page-width
mouse trip from anything else you'd click. There are only ever two tabs, so
they ride the tab row now, right next to About.
Channel picker: drop the 50-row cap — 320 plain buttons cost nothing to render
(the feed virtualises thousands), so the whole list scrolls in the same box. The
cap was caution, not a measurement. The box gets the app's usual edge-fade to
hint at more, and a line saying "Priority first, then A-Z" — the backend orders
by `priority DESC, lower(title)`, which reads as random to anyone who hasn't set
a priority.
`filters.channelId` was settable by exactly one thing: a "?channel=" URL from a
shared view. The panel still rendered a CHANNEL card whose only control was
"remove" — a remove button for a filter the UI could not apply.
Two ways in now. The panel gets a real Channel group (searchable picker,
first-class alongside date/tags/language, so the chip row surfaces it for free);
normalizeLayout appends it to saved layouts, so nobody loses their arrangement.
And a subscribed channel's page gets "Show in my feed", which applies the filter
and keeps the rest of your filters — the point is "this channel, the way I
normally read", which the channel page itself can't answer (it runs show=all,
scope=all over the whole catalog).
The picker owns its channel query so a few-hundred-entry list loads when the
panel is actually opened, not on every feed visit, and says "showing 50 of N"
rather than quietly stopping.
The no-banner placeholder was a short h-14 (56px) bar while a real banner renders
~150px, so the -mt-8 avatar rode up into the absolutely-positioned Back button on
banner-less channels (e.g. Billet Box). Give the fallback the same aspect-ratio +
maxHeight as the banner container so the overlapping avatar has the same room and
the header layout is consistent whether or not a channel has a banner.
The banner URL is valid, but googleusercontent intermittently drops the banner
request when the channel page fires the banner + avatar + ~16 thumbnails at once;
the browser then negative-caches the miss, so the banner stays broken with no
auto-retry (even though the same URL loads fine on a fresh request). On error we
now retry a few times with a ?r= cache-buster (a fresh URL that bypasses the
negative cache), and only fall back to the blank bar if it keeps failing (a
genuinely dead URL). Fixes the broken-banner on channel pages like BASSHUNTER.
- apply_channel_details: (branding.get("channel") or {}) so a "channel": null
in brandingSettings can't AttributeError-abort the enrich batch.
- topicLabels: drop empty labels so a malformed topic URL can't render a blank chip.
- fix: reserve the scrollbar gutter (scrollbar-gutter:stable) on the channel
page's scroll container, so switching between the tall Videos tab and the
short About tab no longer shifts the banner/avatar/buttons a few px sideways
(the vertical scrollbar was appearing/disappearing between the two tabs).
- About tab now shows Country (flag + localized name), Language, Topics
(topicCategories → readable chips), and Keywords (brandingSettings keywords
parsed into chips, quoted multi-word tags kept whole). country/language/topics
were already stored; keywords is new (migration 0055_channel_keywords, mapped
in apply_channel_details, returned by channel_detail).
- Discovery → channel page: the Channel-manager "Discover from playlists" tab now
links each channel name to its in-app channel page (ChannelLink onView), so a
discovered channel's About/videos can be inspected BEFORE subscribing (was
subscribe-only, plain text before).
Note: the channel info-card epic itself was already delivered in v0.19.0; this is
the About-tab enrichment follow-up + the header-shift fix. external_links stays
empty by design (YouTube removed the field from the Data API ~2023).
BUG (FB3): the channel page's Subscribe mutation had no onError, so a read-only
user (no YouTube write scope) clicking Subscribe got a silent 403 — nothing
happened, no toast. Wire notifyYouTubeActionError (no wizard handle here, so the
message without the Connect button). Block is a local-only action and can't 403
for scope, so it's left as-is.
BUG (FB4): subscribe.onSuccess invalidated channel/feed/channels but omitted
my-status and discovered-channels (which ChannelDiscovery invalidates for the
same action), so after subscribing from a channel page the Discovery list and
the manager stats stayed stale. Added both.
tsc green, localdev boots healthy.
- Live-search view: a results-count selector (20/40/60/100) replaces manual load-more (the free
scrape source pages until that many are gathered); an 'these results are temporary' banner with
a 'Clear now' button that discards them 'as if never added' (api.clearSearch) and returns to
the feed.
- Channel blocklist: a Block/Unblock toggle + 'Blocked' badge on the channel page (blocked
channels don't auto-explore and their videos are hidden), and a 'Blocked channels' section in
the Channel manager with one-click unblock. ChannelDetail.blocked from the backend.
- Admin: a 'Purge discovery' button on the Scheduler page (immediate un-kept search/explore
cleanup). EN/HU/DE throughout.
Instead of a full-bleed banner, inset it with a margin and rounded corners so it reads as a
contained card; the avatar overlaps its bottom-left. Airier and more designed than edge-to-edge.
- Move the channel stats (subscribers / videos / views / joined) onto one meta line beside the
handle under the name, dropping the separate stats row.
- Cap the banner at 150px tall so it no longer dominates the page; the wide YouTube-style crop
is kept. Net: the video grid starts much higher.
Subscribers and Channel-priority sorts are meaningless when the feed is scoped to one channel
(both are constant across its videos), so hide them there via a channelScoped flag on Feed.
The main feed keeps all sorts.
The stored bannerExternalUrl is the full 16:9 banner template at a low default size (512x288),
so object-contain showed the whole padded image tiny and centered. Now request a crisp wide
version (=w1707) and object-cover the desktop safe-area band (centre 2560x423, ~6:1) at full
width — matching YouTube's banner crop.
- F5 on a channel page kept bouncing to the feed — the App init dropped history.state._chan
like the (intentionally non-replayed) YouTube search. Now channelView restores from _chan on
load and the stamp preserves it, so a reload stays on the channel page.
- The banner was stretched/cropped (bg-cover). Render it as an <img object-contain> with a
capped height, letterboxed on the surface colour, so its real aspect ratio is kept.
- The round avatar's top was clipped by the banner: the banner's position:relative container
painted above the static identity row. Give that row relative z-10 so the overlapping avatar
sits on top.
Refetch the channel detail after the auto-explore ingest so `explored` flips true and the
"Exploring" badge appears immediately — the GET that drove the first render predated the
explore that just created the ExploredChannel row.
Frontend for the channel-explore feature:
- ChannelPage: banner/avatar/stats header, Subscribe/unsubscribe, an "exploring" badge
while browsing an un-subscribed channel, Videos/About tabs. Reuses Feed scoped to the
channel (scope=all + source=all so the per-user ephemeral videos show). Auto-ingests
recent uploads on first visit (background, with a loading note) + "Load more from
YouTube" to page deeper; skipped for demo / already-subscribed channels.
- App: openChannel/closeChannel as a Back-aware sub-view (history.state._chan, mirrors the
YT-search _yt pattern); ChannelPage takes over the content column, nav rail stays.
- ChannelLink/cards/player: the channel name now opens our channel page (onChannelFilter →
onOpenChannel); the in-card "only this channel" filter button is dropped (the page
subsumes it). PlayerModal channel-name wiring follows in the next commit.
- api: channelDetail + exploreChannel; ChannelDetail/ExploreResult types.
- i18n EN/HU/DE: channel namespace, explore_cleanup scheduler labels, explore config group,
channels_explore quota label.
