users.last_login_at (migration 0085, no backfill) is stamped by _establish_session,
which the Google callback now shares with password login instead of repeating its
session setup inline. The demo entry does not stamp its shared account. The admin
user list carries the field.
A failed Facebook download read "Download failed": yt-dlp words the login wall
(18+ reel, closed group) as "Cannot parse data", which no category matched.
Measured on dev with the owner's cookie before writing a rule — the same text is
the login wall without a cookie and a refused cookie with one.
- errors.diagnose(msg, url, cookie_attached) tries a host-scoped catalog first
(all-of markers, cookie state, link fragment) and falls back to the category.
First entries: facebook.login_wall, facebook.cookie_rejected,
facebook.group_post_video. The module doc is the recipe for the next entry.
- download_jobs.error_detail (0084) + backfill of the stored Facebook parse
failures that were unknown.
- The pipeline's failure branch passes the link and whether the cookie went
with it; resume and redownload clear code and detail (redownload never
cleared error_code).
- A job meeting an already-failed asset got the text but no code, so it read
"Download failed" where the first job said why. It is diagnosed again, with
the cookie state from credentials.is_authed_asset (now shared with the
cookie gate); the redacted network text classifies back to network.
- FE: failCopyKeys gives the row and the failure window one lookup — catalog
copy, else the category. Copy in EN and HU; a contract test pins every
backend entry to both locales.
Deep-review round 3 of bug hunt 2026-09.
- The YouTube and Plex progress bodies are bounded by POSITION_MAX_S (the int4 position columns): a
finite position of 2^31 or more was a DataError, i.e. a 500 — the sibling of round 2's non-finite
fix.
- plex/stream.py promised "a periodic reaper", but reap_idle ran only inside the NEXT session
request: after the last playback an abandoned session (its ffmpeg still working, its directory a
whole segmented copy of the film) lived until someone pressed play again. A lifespan task reaps
every 60 s.
- Tests for what round 2 left untested: the 422's body keeps the list shape the UI localizes, and
stream_session refuses non-finite start/aoff.
E24 S1. The anti-paralysis answer layer, served from our own Postgres with no
upstream call: one hero suggestion, one CROSS-SOURCE resume rail, and the user's
own comfort shelf.
Survey first, because the roadmap line was wrong about the starting point: Plex
already ships the whole trio (E5's Discover rails, including a reshuffling
Surprise me), the YouTube side ships none of it, and nothing anywhere answers
the question across both. The data already existed on both sides — VideoState
and PlexState are structurally identical, the feed has an `in_progress` filter
and a seeded shuffle, and the YT player already resumes position.
- app/discover/budget.py — the time bands. "How much time do you have"
(10 perc / 30 perc / egy este / mindegy) replaces 15/D's mood questionnaire:
deterministic, answerable from a column we have, and it picks the source for
free. Matched against REMAINING time, so a film with 8 minutes left is a
ten-minute answer. An unknown runtime fits only the unbounded band.
- app/discover/cards.py — a thin unified card that carries the NATIVE feed /
Plex payload, so the page renders with the existing card components instead of
a third one. `aspect` is the one new field: a rail needs to know poster from
16:9, and that is a property of the artwork, not of the module.
- app/discover/queries.py — the SQL, reusing feedquery and plex.rollup rather
than the Plex Discover ROUTE, whose LibraryFilters narrowing belongs to a
surface that has a sidebar. One seed drives both halves so a reroll moves
them together.
- app/discover/hero.py — resume -> comfort -> surprise, with the chosen tier in
the payload so the client labels it honestly instead of guessing.
- comfort_pins (0083): five nullable CASCADE-ing FKs under num_nonnulls(...) = 1
rather than a flag or a polymorphic string ref. A flag cannot order a shelf or
hold a channel; a string ref would let a deleted library item leave a dead tile
on the one surface whose whole job is to be reliable.
Two honest-state rules the tests pin: the surprise draw excludes anything
already started (the resume tier may have skipped it for not fitting, and
offering it back as "Meglepetés" would contradict the question), and which
source leads the draw follows the seed, so the Plex library can actually answer
"egy este".

pytest 987.
Twelve mails carried hardcoded English while the app itself has enforced HU/EN parity since E5.
A mail is the one user-facing surface nobody can re-render by switching the UI language: it arrives
once, in whatever language we picked, and stays that way. That made the epic's own headline mail —
"one mail, one click" — English for a Hungarian reader.
The text moved to a catalog (`mailtext.py`) with a `text(key, lang, **vars)` renderer, and the parity
rule is now a test rather than a habit: every key must carry both languages AND the same
`{placeholders}`. A translation that drops `{link}` sends a mail with no link in it; one that invents
a placeholder raises inside a background task nobody is watching. Both are silent in production.
Every `send_*` takes the language as its second argument, resolved by the REQUEST handler and never
inside the mail — these all run as background tasks, after the request's session is gone, which is
the same reason the approval mail computes its link in the handler.
Where the language comes from, in order: the account's own preference; failing that, the language the
person asked us in; failing that, English. The middle one is new — `invites.lang`, migration `0082` —
because the mails an access request produces go to an address that usually has no account yet, and
the signal does exist: the page their form was submitted from, or the locale Google reported for a
sign-in we refused. Captured rather than derived, for the third time in this epic (`google_email` in
S3, `preferences.language` in S6 taught the same lesson): a signal that exists only in one moment
cannot be backfilled later. So the admin is asked in exactly one place — the invitation to an address
they typed in themselves, where nobody has ever told us anything.
That send is now a dialog rather than a bare click, which is also where the "you already wrote to
them" warning belongs — it used to live only in a tooltip the admin may never hover, guarding the one
action whose failure mode is mailing a real person twice.
S6's registration `lang` field turned out to be dead on arrival: the backend accepted it, the
frontend never sent it, so every account has been storing nothing. The request builders now stamp the
UI language themselves — a signal that has to be passed in by every caller is one every caller can
forget, which is exactly how it shipped unset.
Admins are notified one mail per language group instead of one blast to everyone. They are people
with their own UI language; a single message would have to pick one of them and be wrong for the rest.
Also removes a duplicated `invited_at` column declaration on `Invite` (two identical definitions
landed in S6).
The funnel's common ordering made a person open TWO messages: one saying their access was approved,
another asking them to confirm their address. The approval mail now branches on what they actually
still have to do — carry the confirmation link, point at sign-in, or say a confirmation mail follows
once they register — so the usual case is one mail and one click. A mail that guesses wrong is worse
than a plain one: telling someone to sign in while their address is unconfirmed contradicts the
screen that will refuse them.
That embedded link lives 7 days rather than the usual 24 hours. Nobody sits waiting for an approval —
it can easily be read on Monday after a weekend, and an expired link spends the one-mail promise and
puts them back on two. The risk is small: the token only ever confirms an address; it signs nobody in
and sets no password.
The most likely root cause of the 2026-09-03 report that a confirmation mail "never arrived" is here
too, and it was never a delivery failure: re-registering an address that already had an unconfirmed
account returned in SILENCE — same cheerful "check your inbox", no mail sent at all. It now re-sends
the link. Nothing new leaks: the response and its timing are unchanged, and the public verify/resend
already does exactly this for the same input.
Whitelisting stays silent, and that is a decision, not an omission. The operator opens a door as a
possibility — usually already agreed with the person — and a row can sit approved for weeks with
nobody registering; a mail fired automatically there would be nudging someone who never asked.
Telling them is its own act on its own button, `invited_at` records it so a second click is a
decision rather than an accident, and the button only appears where nobody is behind the address yet:
"the door is open, come in" is meaningless to someone already inside.
Two things UAT caught that no test would have. Every fresh registration appeared in BOTH admin lists
at once, because the stuck-sign-ups filter keyed on "unconfirmed" — the rule is now "the address may
sign in, and this account still can't", which leaves an undecided request with the queue that owns
it. And the invitation button was offered on every approved row, half of which are existing users.
Also: the confirmation mail finally says what its link's rules are (once, 24 hours) — the reset mail
always has, while this one left the reader to discover both by meeting a dead link. The card's
"didn't get the email?" moves up under the form, and the three waiting messages name the spam folder,
which is where a first message to a fresh recipient sometimes lands.
Registration now records the language the sign-up page was in. Nothing reads it yet — the bilingual
templates are S7 — but it is the only moment that choice exists anywhere the server can see, and a
preference nobody recorded cannot be backfilled later.
UAT on localdev: re-registering re-sent the link (one token became two, one account); approval issued
a 7-day token and moved the account into the stuck list with only a re-send; whitelisting mailed
nobody; the invitation recorded itself and the row then warned that sending again would write twice.
Test data removed.
An account can now hold two true addresses: the one its owner typed, which a Google
sign-in no longer overwrites, and the one Google answers with. Only the first was
stored, so Settings could say 'Connected' without saying connected AS WHOM -- exactly
what someone who registered with a +tag needs to know.
users.google_email (migration 0080) records Google's answer at sign-in and at an
in-app link. /api/me exposes it ONLY when it differs from the account address, so the
comparison lives in one place and the majority, whose two addresses are the same
string, see no change at all. Rendered in the account menu as a muted third line under
the identity, and in the Settings sign-in row under the existing hint.
A short 'Google' label rather than a brand glyph: the app draws one icon set (lucide),
and a generic mail icon next to an email address says nothing. It also reads to a
screen reader, which an unlabelled logo would not.
No backfill is possible -- Google's answer is only known at sign-in -- so accounts
linked earlier stay NULL until their owner next signs in with Google.
Gmail delivers x.y@, xy@ and xy+tag@ to one inbox; the invite gate only lowercased.
On 2026-09-03 that turned an approved user's Google sign-in into a silent SECOND
access request -- OAuth returns the account's stored primary, which need not be the
spelling they typed -- and left prod with two user rows for one mailbox (ids 13, 14).
The +tag case fails every time: a Google account cannot contain +, so OAuth can only
ever answer with the base address.
Mail still goes to the address AS TYPED; only identity matching uses the canonical
form. utils.canonical_email is the single definition, and a model validator derives
users.email_canonical / invites.email_canonical on every write, so no call site can
forget it. Scope is narrow on purpose: dots are significant on most providers and the
Gmail rule does not hold for Workspace custom domains.
Swept every sibling of the same principle, not just the reported one: is_allowed,
upsert_pending_invite, the Google-callback adoption, _register_account (so no new
duplicate pair can be created), _activate_user_by_email, admin _accounts_for (an
invite backing a live user under another spelling used to look deletable) and
add_invite, plus purge_user, which now erases every canonically-equal invite instead
of leaving one behind that still grants access.
Migration 0079 backfills both columns and indexes them NON-uniquely: prod already
carries canonical duplicates (approved invite pairs since 2026-06-16), and merging
accounts is a judgement call about people's data, not something a migration does on
its own. A test pins the backfill SQL against the Python helper.
SEC-10 revoked any password set while an account's email was unverified, on both
the Google-adoption and the admin-approval path. On the approval path that was
redundant: password_login refuses an unverified account before it ever reads
is_active, so approval hands a pre-emptor's password nothing it could use. All the
revoke achieved there was destroying the password a legitimate registrant had just
chosen -- and since the admin normally decides before the user reads their mail,
'your password was cleared for security' was the DEFAULT experience, not an edge
case. The guard stays on the Google-adoption path, where the real owner does attest
ownership.
password_reset_required and the ok_reset banner stay: accounts stripped on prod
before this change have no other way back in.
Two existing tests pinned the old rule, so they are rewritten rather than deleted,
and the SEC-10 recovery pack now builds the revoked state through the surviving
producer.
Two independent bugs made an email+password registration unrecoverable in prod.
The verification link did nothing. urlWithParams/clearParams rebuilt the URL as
pathname+query and dropped the fragment — but the one-time auth tokens ride the
fragment (#verify=/#reset=, SB3), and the providers that mirror nav params
(useUrlMirror in FeedFilters/Playlists/Plex/Channels) sit ABOVE the lazily-loaded
<App> in main.tsx. Their mount effect replaceState'd the token away before the auth
card's chunk had loaded, so the card read an empty hash: the link opened a bare
sign-in page, no request, no banner. Both helpers now carry the fragment over.
The account was then locked out for good. SEC-10 nulls password_hash when an
unverified account is attested (here: admin approval landing before the user could
verify — which the bug above made impossible). That is indistinguishable from a
Google-only account, and reset eligibility keyed off password_hash alone, so no
reset link was ever issued: no password to sign in with, and no way to get one.
users.password_revoked_at records the revocation, reset eligibility honours it, and
setting a password again (reset-confirm or set-password) clears it. An account that
never had a password stays ineligible on purpose — its owner adds one from Settings.
/auth/verify now also answers password_reset_required so the card can say why the
registered password stopped working, instead of leaving the user at the uniform
"Invalid email or password". Telling the holder of a valid verify token leaks
nothing: they have already proved they own the mailbox.
The 0078 migration backfills the stamp for rows carrying the exact lockout signature
(local, non-demo, no password, unverified), so existing victims recover unaided.
Adds a movie-scoped "Playback" filter to the Plex feed so a user can isolate items by how
they play — the groundwork for collecting HW-transcodable (or no-transcode) versions.
Four classes derived from the stored `playable` + a new `transcode_hw` facet:
- Direct Play (direct), Direct Stream (remux)
- Transcode · HW — playable=transcode AND the iGPU can hardware-transcode it
- Transcode · SW — playable=transcode, software libx264 only
The HW/SW split is precise, not codec-only: a 10-bit/HDR HEVC is HW-decodable yet breaks the
VAAPI nv12 pipeline (the same case plex/stream special-cases), so it must count as SW.
Backend:
- New PlexItem columns (migration 0077): transcode_hw, video_bit_depth, media_probed_at.
Migration backfills transcode_hw codec-only so the filter works immediately.
- `plex.sync.transcode_hw_capable` is the single classifier; the HW-decodable codec set moves
to sync as `HW_DECODABLE_CODECS` and plex.stream imports it, so the catalog facet and the
runtime encoder choice can't disagree by codec.
- Bit-depth backfill (`_probe_media_batch`, wired into sync): probes only HW-decodable transcode
items' video Stream for bit-depth + HDR and refines a 10-bit/HDR HEVC to software. Bounded
per run, watermarked by media_probed_at. A codec change resets the watermark (stale probe).
- Filter + self-excluded facet on a shared `playback_class_expr` CASE (movie-leg only — a show
is an aggregate with no single class). transcode_hw threaded onto the feed/detail/card JSON.
Frontend:
- Multi-select "Playback" Combobox in the sidebar (movie scope, facet-empty drop-out), active
chips, 4-way corner-dot badge (green/blue/amber/red) + tooltip, and an info-page playback chip
with a codec · bit-depth subtitle. New `bg-info` (blue) token, i18n HU/EN parity.
- Fix a regression where the card's playback dot lost its hover tooltip: the full-card reveal
overlay swallowed the cursor; the dot now sits above it (z-20).
Gate: backend full lane + frontend typecheck/lint/knip/prettier/vitest all green. Browser-UAT'd
on localdev (filter narrows to the SW set, facet counts, badge colour + tooltip, info chip).
Add the non-yt-dlp ingest path so a user-uploaded file joins the same download
library and inherits its function set. Any file type is accepted: media
(video/audio) gets the full set (metadata, share, play/edit), a generic file
(pdf/zip/docx/…) is download-only.
- MediaAsset.media_kind ("video"|"audio"|"file") — the stored discriminator that
gates library actions. Set at every finalize (download probe, editor carries the
source's kind, upload probe); consolidates the ad-hoc audio-detect that lived only
in links.py into one invariant (downloads.mediakind.derive). Migration 0076 adds
the column + backfills existing rows.
- downloads/upload.py: ingest_upload probes the file (ffprobe → codecs/dims/duration),
places it in a per-user .uploads tree, and creates an already-ready asset + done job
(the same cache-hit shortcut enqueue uses). Uploads never expire (irreplaceable).
- POST /api/downloads/upload: streaming multipart with the per-file cap
(download_upload_max_bytes, default 500 MiB) enforced on actual bytes read; quota
charges the known size up front (quota.check_upload).
- Security: a generic file is always served force-download (attachment +
application/octet-stream) on both the in-app and public endpoints, so uploaded
HTML/SVG can't execute inline. Edit + redownload reject non-media / upload sources.
- python-multipart added (first multipart endpoint in the app).
"Sync to YouTube" was a one-directional destructive push (local wins, deletes
from YouTube every item not in the local list), so items added on YouTube were
lost and a dirty pull was skipped entirely. Replace it with a real 3-way merge:
each item is classified against the last-synced baseline as a local-add, a
YouTube-add, or a genuine delete, so an add or delete on either side survives.
- Persist the ordered baseline id set (new playlists.synced_video_ids, migration
0075); the fingerprint hash alone couldn't drive a merge. NULL baseline (fresh
export / pre-S7 link) unions losslessly on the first sync and records one.
- Pure merge_plan(baseline, local, youtube) -> add/remove per side + merged order
(local order, YouTube-only additions appended). merge_playlist applies the
local side directly and the YouTube side through the failure breaker; the
baseline only advances on full success so a partial failure re-converges.
- plan_merge/push-plan now report what each side gains and loses; the confirm
dialog shows the two-way plan before applying (pushPlanMerge, HU+EN).
- Tests: 10 new (pure classification incl. delete-vs-stale-copy; DB apply proving
a YouTube-add and a Siftlode-add both survive on both sides, a genuine delete
propagates without collateral loss, no-baseline never deletes, create path).
Each user stores their own login cookies (Netscape cookies.txt) for an
auth-walled download host (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Reddit) in
Settings; a download of an auth-walled link on that host is retried with
the acting user's cookie.
Two load-bearing security controls, both in downloads.credentials as the
single source of truth so enqueue and the worker can't drift:
- cache privacy: a cookie-authed download salts its MediaAsset format_sig
with the user id, so the authed asset is private and never cache-served
to another user. The worker attaches a cookie ONLY when the asset it is
downloading into IS that private, salted identity.
- host scope (SEC-12): a cookie is resolved only for a URL whose netloc
the credential owns (netloc-scoped _host_is); a look-alike/unrelated
host gets none.
cookies_enc is Fernet-encrypted at rest, only decrypted in-worker into a
0600 file under staging/.auth/ (survives the retry wipe + _produced_file
scan) and unlinked in finally. The blob is never returned by a route,
logged, audited, or written to a job's error/snapshot. cookiefile is set
after the adapter's extra merge so an adapter can't clobber it. Settings
UI is write-only (host + set/updated only, never echoed). New
download_credentials table + migration 0074; per-user routes; HU+EN i18n.
Tests: host-scope, cache-privacy (no cross-user serve), encrypt-at-rest,
write-only API, worker attach-gate; FE dom test for the write-only field.
Saved "smart views" were feed-only; the Plex module is getting them too. Add a
`source` discriminator to saved_views ("feed" | "plex"), default "feed" so every
existing row and any source-less client stays feed. Widen the per-user unique
name constraint to (user_id, source, name) so a feed view and a Plex view can
share a name, and scope create's position numbering + the is_default "clear the
others" to (user, source).
Migration 0073 (ADD source NOT NULL server_default 'feed' + swap the unique
constraint; reversible). Endpoints: GET/POST take `source` (default feed).
Tests: source isolation, per-source default, per-source name uniqueness.
The person page now leads with a TMDB bio, lazily fetched the first time it's
opened (off the S2-linked `tmdb_person_id`) and then served from the row:
- Migration 0072: ADD-only nullable person columns on plex_people — biography,
birthday, deathday, place_of_birth, known_for_department, also_known_as,
known_for ([{tmdb_id, media_type, title}]), tmdb_enriched_at.
- tmdb.py: TmdbClient.fetch_person (/person/{id}+combined_credits), parse_person
(bio + a popularity-ranked, deduped known_for), apply_person, enrich_person
(lazy one-shot, key+id guarded, commits, 404 stamps the watermark).
- people.py person_detail: loads the full person row, lazily enriches (best-effort
— never fails the page), serves the bio fields + resolves known_for to library
rows by guid (in-library only, popularity order).
- FE PlexPersonView: bio/birth-facts/aka hero + a "Known for" Carousel rail above
the existing Movies/Shows filmography; PlexPersonDetail type + i18n (en+hu).
Tests: test_plex_person_bio.py (6: parse / lazy-enrich guards / serve) + extended
PlexPersonView.dom.test.tsx + the unknown-name contract in test_plex_person.py.
Browser-E2E'd on Jim Carrey (live TMDB enrich → bio 1937 chars, born 1962-01-17
Newmarket, Known-for resolved). Gate: vitest 337, backend lane 402.
Matches each mirrored Plex movie/show to TMDB by its stored canonical guid,
fetches once (append_to_response), and PERSISTS the enrichment onto the row —
served from the DB, never a live TMDB call at serve time. Additive: the
Plex-sourced imdb_rating/rating are untouched; tmdb_rating is the distinct
TMDb community score (ratings scope = TMDb + Plex's IMDb/audience, no OMDb/RT).
- config.py: tmdb_api_key + api_base/language/interval/batch defaults.
- sysconfig SPECS: tmdb_api_key (secret, Fernet) + tmdb_language, auto-rendered
in the admin Config page; read like the Plex token.
- migration 0071 (ADD-only nullable, reversible): plex_items + plex_shows gain
tmdb_id / tmdb_enriched_at (watermark) / tmdb_rating / tmdb_vote_count /
budget / revenue / keywords / crew / studios / production_countries /
recommendations / backdrops; plex_people gains tmdb_person_id (the S2
foundation for S6 person bios). No watermark reset needed.
- app/plex/tmdb.py: TmdbClient (mirrors PlexClient; throttled; 404->None,
transient->TmdbError), parse_tmdb / apply_tmdb_detail (one-parser rule),
guid_to_tmdb_id (tmdb: direct, imdb:/tvdb: via /find), enrich_batch (movies
then shows, transient error leaves the watermark NULL to retry, definitive
no-match still stamps so it isn't re-fetched), _link_people (upserts
tmdb_person_id by name), serve_block (recommendations resolved to library
rows by guid), run_enrich (no-op without a key).
- scheduler: tmdb_enrich nightly job (default 120 min, no YouTube quota),
runtime-tunable + "run now" from the Scheduler dashboard.
- detail endpoints emit `tmdb` (movies + shows) so it's curl-verifiable now;
the FE render lands in S5.
Note: _link_people inserts plex_people rows for TMDB cast/crew; unreferenced
crew (composers etc., not in cast_names/directors) get pruned by the orphan
sweep — acceptable, the person page is cast-driven and cast rows survive.
Gate: ruff + py_compile green; backend test lane FULL suite 387 passed
(incl. migration drift downgrade->re-upgrade + test_plex_tmdb 9 tests).
Frontend unchanged since S1. Not merged (epic branch, stacks on S1).
The admin-tunable maintenance re-validation batch lived in its own app_state
column with a hand-rolled override-or-default reader in app.state — a fourth
config store duplicating the sysconfig SPECS pattern. Move it to a sysconfig key
(`maintenance` group, min=100 max=100_000): the reader (sync/maintenance.py) and
the Scheduler dashboard (routes/scheduler.py PATCH + GET) now go through
sysconfig.get_int / set_value / spec, and app.state loses get/set_maintenance_batch
+ the MIN/MAX constants + the settings import. Migration 0070 carries any existing
override into the system_config store before dropping the app_state column
(reversible; restores + copies back on downgrade). Reuses the existing
sysconfig.spec() for the dashboard's min/max, so the bounds have one source.
Full lane 365 pass (migration drift + reversibility exercised), ruff clean.
Two scheduler jobs full-seq-scanned the 257k-row videos table every run:
- PERF-17 enrich_pending (`WHERE enriched_at IS NULL LIMIT N`, every few minutes):
44,680 buffers even with 0 pending -> a partial ix_videos_enrich_pending makes
it a 1-buffer index scan (empty when nothing pending).
- PERF-18 maintenance revalidate (`WHERE unavailable_since IS NULL ORDER BY
last_checked_at NULLS FIRST LIMIT N`, ~300 pages/run): 44,754 buffers + top-N
sort -> a partial ix_videos_recheck_order in that exact order = a 42-buffer
index scan. The order_by is rewritten to `asc().nulls_first()` (equivalent to
the old `(IS NULL) DESC, ASC`) so it rides the index; the unused plain
ix_videos_last_checked_at is dropped.
PERF-3: drop the never-picked boolean btrees (is_short, via_explore) and slim the
useful ones to partials over the queried subset (via_search=true, NOT
shorts_probed, unavailable_since IS NOT NULL) — less write amplification on the
biggest table, same lookups. Model: those 6 columns lose their inline index=True
(the partials are migration-defined, like the search_vector GIN); live_status
left alone.
Measured on the prod-sized localdev reseed: enrich 44,680 -> 1 buffer (25.9 ->
0.02 ms), maintenance 44,754 -> 42 buffers (35.5 -> 0.17 ms); all 11 CONCURRENTLY
index ops on 257k rows in 0.75s. Gate green (346 pytest incl. drift + downgrade
round-trip).
A nullable published_at forced the feed keyset into a non-sargable
`... OR published_at IS NULL` disjunction: with the 0067 index the planner still
applied it as a FILTER and scanned from the top of the index, so a deep `newest`
page discarded every earlier row (O(depth)).
- Migration 0068: backfill any NULLs (0 in prod) -> SET NOT NULL + DEFAULT now().
- Model: Video.published_at is now non-Optional, nullable=False, server_default now().
- feedquery: the `pub` key is nullable=False, and keyset_predicate is rebuilt
recursively so a non-nullable leading key gets a non-strict range bound
(`published_at <= v`) as an AND conjunct — an index range Cond instead of a
filter. Nullable keys keep the NULL-aware OR form (a `<= v` bound would drop
their NULL group). Equivalence proven by test_feed_keyset (all 13 sorts,
cursor-walk == unpaged).
- Ingest paths (stub_from_playlist_item, apply_video_details, playlists sync)
fall back to now() so they never write an explicit NULL.
Measured on the prod-sized localdev reseed at a ~50k-deep cursor (0067 index +
prod planner): OLD `Rows Removed by Filter: 50001`, 25,687 buffers / 9.16 ms ->
NEW `Index Cond: published_at <= v`, 1 row filtered, 47 buffers / 0.037 ms. SET
NOT NULL on 257k rows: 0.32s. Gate green (334 pytest).
The feed's default `newest` sort is `published_at DESC NULLS LAST, id ASC`, but
the only published_at index was a plain ASC btree — read backwards it satisfies
DESC NULLS FIRST, not NULLS LAST — so every feed page fell back to a full
`videos` seq scan + top-N sort. Migration 0067 adds the two matching indexes
(global + per-channel) CONCURRENTLY and drops the now-redundant single-column
ix_videos_channel_id (the channel composite leads with channel_id, a strict
superset).
Measured on the prod-sized localdev reseed (257,312 videos, prod planner):
- global newest: 44,747 buffers / 154 ms -> 60 buffers / 0.32 ms
- per-channel(12.6k): 7,604 buffers / 96 ms -> 54 buffers / 0.14 ms
CONCURRENTLY build of both on 257k rows: 1.7s total (~0 downtime). This is the
likely root cause of the "prod feed is slow" symptom.
Model: drop the inline index=True on Video.channel_id (the composite supersedes
it); the composites are migration-defined like the search_vector GIN. Gate green
(334 pytest incl. the migration drift + downgrade/re-upgrade round-trip).
Persist the info-page rich fields that were previously read LIVE from plex.metadata() on every view —
imdb_rating (IMDb-specific, vs `rating`=audienceRating), imdb_id, tagline, and full_cast
([{name, role, thumb}]) — onto plex_items/plex_shows, and serve the detail endpoints from the row.
- migration 0065: ADD imdb_rating/imdb_id/tagline/full_cast (nullable → no rewrite/lock, unlike 0064);
NULL people_enriched_at on movie/show rows so the existing cast backfill re-fetches each once and
fills the new columns.
- new app/plex/detail.py: rich_detail(meta) (moved out of browse._rich_meta so sync + serve share one
parser) + apply_rich_detail(row, meta); wired into _enrich_people_batch and the info-page lazy fill.
- item_detail: movies serve cast/IMDb/tagline/genres from the row and keep plex.metadata(markers=True)
ONLY for markers + audio/subtitle streams (so detail survives a live-Plex outage); episodes (never
enriched) still parse detail from that live meta.
- show_detail: serves cast/IMDb from the row; `related` stays live best-effort and also lazily fills a
not-yet-enriched show.
- tests: rich_detail/apply_rich_detail parsing + persistence, backfill stamping, item_detail
outage-resilience + lazy fill + episode-live, show_detail row serving. Full suite 285 pass / 2 skip;
migration verified reversible (up→down→up).
Precondition for S6's pure-DB language-aware serving.
Adds the storage + sync for the Hungarian-metadata overlay (the browsable EN sections gain HU
twin fields written from a paired HU section, matched by guid; no browsable HU rows).
Schema (2 migrations, ADD-only; run before the first HU sync while *_hu is NULL so the generated
column build is trivial):
- 0063: plex_libraries.metadata_lang ('en' default) + self-FK overlay_of.
- 0064: plex_items/plex_shows.guid (indexed) + title_hu/summary_hu/genres_hu (+ GIN) + a STORED
generated search_vector_hu mirroring the EN vector (title_hu A / people_text B / summary_hu C) + GIN.
Sync:
- includeGuids=1 on section_items so the canonical guid rides the cheap listing.
- _canonical_guid(meta) (tmdb > imdb > tvdb) captured onto every EN row in _apply_item/_sync_shows.
- Two-pass sync(): pass 1 mirrors browsable (non-overlay) sections; pass 2 reads plex_overlay_map
('huKey:enKey', new sysconfig), designates each HU section (metadata_lang='hu' + overlay_of), and
_sync_overlay writes title_hu/summary_hu/genres_hu onto the guid-matched EN rows.
Browse: _content_libs now excludes overlay libraries (overlay_of is None); the unified_library and
facets inline library partitions fold into it, and list_libraries/collections exclude overlays too.
Tests: DB-lane coverage of the overlay write (matched vs unmatched rows, no browsable HU rows, the
generated search_vector_hu populates), the guid parse, and the browse exclusion. Full suite 272
passed; migrations verified reversible (upgrade→downgrade→upgrade). S5b (persist the live detail
fields + serve item/show detail from DB) is the follow-up.
Each column already leads a composite UNIQUE constraint whose btree covers
leftmost-prefix lookups on it (and the ON DELETE CASCADE reverse lookups),
so the extra single-column index=True was pure write-amplification. Drop
index=True on the 10 columns + alembic 0062 drops the existing indexes
(DROP INDEX IF EXISTS; downgrade recreates). Verified: migration up/down
round-trips on localdev (10 indexes drop, composites intact), siftlode
check green (alembic upgrade head incl. 0062 + pytest 193). The 10 do not
appear in an alembic-check model/DB diff → models and migration agree.
Failed downloads stored the raw yt-dlp/ffmpeg text and dumped it as a truncated red
one-liner in the queue. Classify the failure into a category (unavailable / login_required /
geo_blocked / format_unavailable / drm / postprocess / source_missing / network / unknown)
and surface it properly:
- backend: app/downloads/errors.classify maps the raw message to a category code; the worker
stores it in the new download_jobs.error_code (migration 0061) at both failure sites; resume
clears it; the serializer exposes it. Raw text kept as technical detail.
- frontend: the queue row shows a clean localized reason + a "details" link opening a modal
with the explanation, the raw text behind a disclosure, and a Retry only for transient
categories (network/postprocess/unknown).
- tests: classify() unit coverage over verbatim yt-dlp/ffmpeg message shapes.
A mirrored Shows library whose items have no genres stored `genres` as JSON
`null` — SQLAlchemy's JSONB persists a Python None as a JSON scalar, not SQL
NULL. /facets unnested it with jsonb_array_elements_text(), which raises
"cannot extract elements from a scalar", so a single bare library 500'd the
whole Plex module on open (the grid loads, the filter sidebar's facets call dies).
- Guard the /facets genre unnest with jsonb_typeof(genres)='array', mirroring
the guard people.py already applies to the same columns.
- Persist the JSONB tag columns (genres/directors/cast_names/collection_keys on
plex_items and plex_shows) with none_as_null=True, so an empty list round-trips
as SQL NULL and self-heals on the next sync — closing the trap for any future
unnest.
Verified against the real prod row (DumaTV show, genres = JSON null): the
unguarded query errors, the guarded one returns cleanly.
- C-3.7: fold a per-link password_version into the signed watch grant (migration
0059 adds the column) and bump it on every password change, so rotating a share
link's password invalidates outstanding grants at once instead of letting them
live out the 6h TTL. make_grant/check_grant take the version; update_link bumps.
- C-3.8: the share recipient picker and share-by-email now reuse the messageable
filter (not-demo AND active AND not-suspended) instead of only excluding demo,
so suspended/deactivated addresses aren't leaked or reachable as targets.
- C-3.9: GET /keys/{user_id} adopts get_thread's MB2 guard — a non-messageable
target with no shared history returns the same "User not found" as a missing id,
so it can't be probed to enumerate users or fetch suspended users' keys.
- C-3.12: _register_account catches IntegrityError on the insert (the select-then-
insert TOCTOU) and treats it as the already-registered no-op.
- C-3.13: trigger_job claims the running flag atomically under _activity_lock
(compare-and-set) instead of a bare check, closing the double-start window.
- Move _messageable/is_messageable_user into a shared app/userscope.py so downloads
doesn't import the messages route module.
Lazy enrichment only covers viewed titles, so an actor's count/results were
partial. Add a background backfill: each plex_sync rich-fetches a bounded batch
(60) of not-yet-enriched movies/shows and persists their FULL cast, stamping
people_enriched_at so each is fetched once — the whole library is covered over
successive runs (migration 0057 adds the marker). Extracted the enrichment into a
shared app/plex/people.py (cast_from_meta / enrich_row_people / prune_orphan_people
+ the person-image host/proxy) so the info-page lazy path and the batch share ONE
implementation — no duplication; the info page also stamps the marker so the batch
skips it. Verified: an 8-item batch grows those movies' cast_names 3->24 and fills
plex_people (32->224); the info-page cast is intact after the _rich_meta refactor.
(Plex cast-explore S1b)
The cheap section listing that drives the main sync only stores the top ~3 cast,
so any cast member below that was unfilterable (clicking them AND-emptied the
grid). Now the movie/show info fetch (/item, /show) — which already pulls the full
rich cast — persists it onto cast_names + people_text (so every displayed cast
member becomes filterable) and caches each headshot in the new plex_people table
(migration 0056). Idempotent (only grows a thinner stored set); best-effort (never
500s a read). Verified: 10 Cloverfield Lane 3->8 cast after viewing; plex_people
populated with photos. (Plex cast-explore S1a)
- fix: reserve the scrollbar gutter (scrollbar-gutter:stable) on the channel
page's scroll container, so switching between the tall Videos tab and the
short About tab no longer shifts the banner/avatar/buttons a few px sideways
(the vertical scrollbar was appearing/disappearing between the two tabs).
- About tab now shows Country (flag + localized name), Language, Topics
(topicCategories → readable chips), and Keywords (brandingSettings keywords
parsed into chips, quoted multi-word tags kept whole). country/language/topics
were already stored; keywords is new (migration 0055_channel_keywords, mapped
in apply_channel_details, returned by channel_detail).
- Discovery → channel page: the Channel-manager "Discover from playlists" tab now
links each channel name to its in-app channel page (ChannelLink onView), so a
discovered channel's About/videos can be inspected BEFORE subscribing (was
subscribe-only, plain text before).
Note: the channel info-card epic itself was already delivered in v0.19.0; this is
the About-tab enrichment follow-up + the header-shift fix. external_links stays
empty by design (YouTube removed the field from the Data API ~2023).
Signed client-side session cookies had no server-side kill switch: logout + password
reset couldn't evict a stolen/copied cookie (valid until expiry). Add User.session_epoch
(migration 0053), record it in the cookie at every login, and reject in current_user any
cookie whose recorded epoch is behind the account's current one.
- Bump the epoch on: password reset (kills ALL sessions — a reset is a compromise response),
password change + a new 'Log out other sessions' action (both re-stamp the CURRENT cookie
so the caller stays signed in, evicting only the others).
- Per-account epoch map in the session so one account's revocation doesn't evict the other
signed-in accounts in the same browser wallet.
- Missing epoch (pre-SA4 cookie) is treated as 0, so the first bump revokes grandfathered
sessions too.
- New POST /auth/logout-others + a Settings → Account 'Active sessions' button (trilingual).
- feed.py _filtered_query: drop the dead 2nd return element (status_expr was
used only internally for WHERE filters; all 3 callers discarded it as _status).
Now returns (query, rank_expr); fixed the stale docstring.
- youtube/client.py: extract _iter_playlist_items() — iter_my_playlist_video_ids
and iter_playlist_items_with_ids were near-identical playlistItems paging loops
(jscpd [173-187]≈[267-281]); both now map over the shared generator.
- sync/videos.py: extract _apply_video_batch() with an on_missing callback —
enrich_pending and refresh_live shared the fetch-map-apply skeleton, differing
only in the query and how they retire rows YouTube omits.
- models.py: add LIVE_OR_UPCOMING = ("live","upcoming"); replace the 4 duplicated
copies (feed.HIDDEN_LIVE, search._LIVE_HIDDEN, videos.py + channels.py inline).
Behavior-neutral. ruff clean on touched files, localdev boots, feed/worker healthy.
Give TV shows the same filterable metadata as movies so the TV grid can be
filtered/sorted, not just library+sort. Backend: migration 0052 adds
rating/content_rating/studio/originally_available_at/genres/directors/cast_names/
people_text to plex_shows (+ GIN/indexes, people_text folded into search_vector);
_sync_shows populates them cheaply from the show section listing (no per-item
calls). /browse show-branch gains the movie filter set (minus duration) plus an
aggregate per-user watch-state (a show rolls up its episodes: all watched=watched,
any progress=in_progress, none=new) with year/rating/release sorts; /facets returns
show facets. Frontend: PlexSidebar renders the metadata filters + watch-state for TV
libraries (duration stays movie-only); show cards show a watched/in-progress badge.
i18n plex.inProgress (en/hu/de). Needs a Plex re-sync to populate the new columns.
Plex records watch state per Plex account; Siftlode per user in plex_states. A new plex_link table
maps a Siftlode user to a Plex account; for the owner (MVP) the row uses the server admin token
(uses_admin=True), so no separate Plex login. app/plex/watch_sync.py reads the owner account's
viewCount/viewOffset/lastViewedAt (already present in the catalog mirror's section listing) and
upserts them into the owner's plex_states — 'Plex is master' on this first import, but only where
Plex has a watch record (Siftlode-only states are preserved; union on the intersection). Idempotent.
Admin routes: GET/POST /api/plex/watch/link (status + enable/disable; first enable runs the import)
and POST /api/plex/watch/import (re-run). Migration 0051_plex_link. Two-way push (Phase B) and the
incremental Plex→Siftlode reconcile (Phase C) build on this in later ships.
Two visual gaps for non-catalog downloads:
- Channel link: YouTube already exposes channel_url; Facebook exposes none but a
numeric uploader_id that resolves at facebook.com/<id>. `_uploader_url` derives
it so the auto-detected channel renders as a real clickable link.
- Poster: a source with no thumbnail (e.g. a direct reddit HLS URL) showed a
blank image box. The worker now cuts a representative frame with ffmpeg
(`ensure_poster`) into the `<base>.jpg` sidecar and records `poster_path`
(migration 0050). The card, the public watch page (<video poster> + og:image),
and link previews fall back to it via new authed + public poster endpoints.
Adds `app.downloads.backfill` (one-off, re-run-safe) to fill uploader_url
(re-extract YouTube/Facebook metadata) and posters for pre-existing downloads.
The edit (pencil) action now edits a download's full display metadata — title,
channel name, channel link and any number of extra reference URLs — instead of
just the name. The channel and links render as clickable links on the library
card, and the channel link is auto-filled from the source (yt-dlp channel_url)
when available. Shared watch pages resolve the same per-download overrides, so a
rename/channel/link edit is reflected on the public /watch page too, with every
link clickable.
Adds migration 0049 (media_assets.uploader_url; download_jobs.display_uploader,
display_uploader_url, extra_links) and generalizes the rename endpoint into a
metadata update with URL validation. EN/HU/DE strings included.
Personal ordered lists of Plex items, kept in Siftlode's own DB (works for users
without a Plex account, like watch-state) — the "your own lists" counterpart to
shared collections. Plex-direction sync is a later phase (plex_rating_key
reserved).
Backend: migration 0048 (plex_playlists + plex_playlist_items with position),
PlexPlaylist/PlexPlaylistItem models, and per-user CRUD endpoints under
/api/plex/playlists (list [+?contains for the add dialog], create [seeded],
detail [ordered cards], rename, delete, add/remove item, reorder). _leaf_card
handles the movie/episode mix. Frontend: "Add to playlist" dialog from the movie
info page (all users), a Playlists section in PlexSidebar (list + create),
PlexPlaylistView (reorder up/down, remove, rename, delete, Play all), and
PlexPlayer gained an optional `queue` so play-through follows the list order
(prev/next + auto-advance). i18n en/hu/de. Verified end-to-end on localdev
(backend CRUD + the create→add→view→play-through UI flow).
Backend (migration 0047_plex_collections): a plex_collections table mirrors every Plex
collection (card metadata + smart flag + an editable flag reserved for Phase 2); membership
is stored as GIN-indexed collection_keys on member movies (plex_items) and shows (plex_shows).
The background sync (plex_sync) now fetches each library's collections + their children and
rebuilds membership — so ALL reads are local (Plex's dual-language collection queries are slow;
this trades a ~4-min background sync for instant reads). New /api/plex/collections endpoint;
/browse gains a combinable filter; item_detail returns the movie's collection
'strips' (sibling titles as playable cards, smallest/most-specific collection first) — all pure
local lookups.
Frontend: PlexSidebar gains a searchable Collection picker + an active-collection chip;
PlexInfo renders the collection strips (playable posters + 'Browse collection' → sets the
filter); the collection is part of PlexFilters (persisted). i18n en/hu/de.
Phase 2 (create/edit collections with write-back to Plex) is separate.
Backend (migration 0046_plex_people_search): a new people_text column (cast +
director names, de-duped) is folded into the generated search_vector at weight B,
so the top search box finds titles by an actor/director name and ranks them above
summary-only mentions. New /api/plex/people endpoint returns the cast/crew matching
the term (name prefix or word-start) with a film count + a headshot (pulled from one
representative film's live metadata; image bytes disk-cached).
Frontend: PlexBrowse shows matching people as virtual cards above the grid; clicking
one adds them to the actor/director filter (multi-value, from the C1 work) and clears
the search box so you land on exactly that person's films. Answers the 'why does
"drew" match Rambo?' confusion — it was matching the word in the synopsis; now names
are searchable. i18n en/hu/de.
⚠️ Prod needs a Plex re-sync after deploy to populate people_text (search_vector
regenerates automatically once the column has data).
Backend (migration 0045_plex_filter_meta): plex_items gains rating (audienceRating
~IMDb), content_rating, studio, originally_available_at, and GIN-indexed genres /
directors / cast_names — all mirrored from the cheap section listing (no per-item API
calls; they also seed a future watch-habit recommender). /browse gains genre / content-
rating / year / rating / duration / added-within / director / actor / studio filters
(@> containment, GIN) + sort by year|rating|duration|release; new /facets endpoint
returns available genres+ratings (with counts) and the year/rating/duration bounds. A
thin on-disk image cache (.plex-img-cache) serves posters/art/cast photos from local
disk after first fetch (~7-14x faster repeat loads).
Frontend: PlexSidebar grows the full filter set (facet-driven genre/age chips, rating
steps, year range inputs, duration buckets, added-within, active people/studio chips,
clear-all); filters persist per-account as one JSON blob. PlexInfo metadata (year,
genre, director, cast, studio, IMDb score) is clickable → sets the matching filter and
returns to the filtered grid (page variant only; the in-player overlay stays read-only
so a stray click can't stop playback). i18n en/hu/de.
Every download now records the clean source page URL and shows it on the
Downloads page (open in a new tab, or copy to clipboard). The worker stores
yt-dlp's canonical webpage_url on the asset (migration 0043 adds
media_assets.source_webpage_url); the serializer prefers it and falls back to a
URL derived from source_kind+source_ref, so YouTube, external YouTube links and
external URLs (e.g. Facebook reels) all get a correct reference, and queued/older
rows work before the worker fills it. Edit clips return null (a clip's source is
the user's own earlier download, not a web page). i18n en/hu/de.
Share a download by a capability URL (/watch/{token}) that anyone can play on a login-free page —
distinct from the registered-user ACL share. Per-link controls: optional expiry, allow-download
toggle (stream-only vs downloadable), optional argon2 password. Revoke = delete.
- migration 0042 + DownloadLink model; app/downloads/links.py (token, HMAC grant sign/verify)
- owner endpoints (POST/GET/PATCH/DELETE links) + /recipients for the internal user picker
- public router (no auth): watch meta / password unlock→signed grant / range-aware file serve
(inline vs attachment); unlock is rate-limited; meta verifies the file exists on disk
Verified end-to-end: 206 range, inline vs attachment, wrong-password 403, tampered-grant 403.
Noisy YouTube titles are cleaned for display + storage, raw kept in videos.original_title:
- app/titles.normalize_title: strip emoji/symbols (keep accents), remove trailing SEO hashtag
clusters (keep numeric #3 episode markers), context-aware de-shout (mostly-ALL-CAPS titles ->
Title Case with an acronym whitelist + function-word lowercasing; otherwise only long all-caps
words), collapse repeated punctuation
- applied at enrichment (sync/videos.py) and in the download worker (ad-hoc yt-dlp titles);
catalog downloads inherit the normalized title automatically
- migration 0039: add original_title, preserve raw, rewrite title (generated search_vector
regenerates); reversible via original_title
Backfill on localdev: 122115/273417 titles normalized in ~2 min. Verified in the feed + on
real messy samples (emoji/de-shout/hashtags), accents + acronyms (PS5/AI/USA/PC) preserved.
Per-user named snapshots of the feed's FeedFilters. New saved_views table
(migration 0035, unique per user+name, position, is_default) + SavedView
model, and a /api/saved-views router (list/create/patch/delete/reorder)
gated behind require_human so the shared demo account can't pollute it.
Setting is_default clears the flag on the user's other views (one default).
