After a reload the chips (filter panel and the row above the feed) read as
raw UC… ids until the subscription list landed. The names seen last time
are now kept per account (useChannelNames) and name the chips at once; the
list then replaces the copy, so a renamed or dropped channel heals. A
channel never named on this browser draws a placeholder bone while the
list loads; a failed list still falls back to the id.
A picker whose options failed to load said so, but the only way back was closing its dialog.
Combobox takes `onRetry`: a Retry beside the message for the pointer, and Enter in the field for
the keyboard (the panel is a listbox, which may hold options only, so the alert names Enter for
assistive tech). Every caller with an error state passes its query's refetch: both user pickers,
the channel picker and the two Plex pickers.
- Combobox gains `error` (said in the list, not "No matches") and a soft `disabled` (keeps the
focus, announced, opens and changes nothing).
- UserPicker passes both: the share dialog's recipient picker is off while a share is pending, and
the share and quota pickers say when the user list failed to load.
- ChannelPicker and the Plex playlist/collection pickers say a failed load too.
- The channel menu's Tags row says loading / failed instead of "no tags yet".
The app HAS a platform layer -- AnchoredPopover (22 importers, with
arrows/typeahead/Escape/anchor-flip), QueryState (21), Modal (17),
PageShell, DataTable, Tabs, Tooltip and ~26 more -- but it sat flat among
~160 feature components with nothing marking it as one. Several of those
files describe themselves as 'the one place' or 'canonical' and were
still bypassed by hand-rolled markup, because a layer nobody can see is a
layer nobody uses; three separate inventory passes of this codebase
misread it the same way.
Moves the 33 domain-free modules into components/ui/, rewrites the
imports in 89 files, and makes the boundary a lint rule rather than a
convention: inside ui/ a one-level-up import (a feature component) and
any lib/api slice are errors. The rule was verified to fire on both and
to leave generic lib/ helpers alone. README.md states which side of the
line a component belongs on and why.
No behaviour change: 3x tsc, eslint, knip, prettier and 687 vitest tests
all green; no backend file touched.
Replaces the hand-rolled channel search list and the flat tag chip walls with the
searchable, ARIA-correct Combobox built for the Plex filter bar (E5), so the YT feed
filters get the same input+listbox+chips UX with facet counts.
- ChannelPicker now wraps Combobox (selectedLabels keeps picks named); drops its bespoke
input + scroll-fade list.
- Sidebar language/topic/tags: each Combobox owns only its slice of the shared
filters.tags list (setTagSelection replaces that list's ids, leaves the rest). Topic
keeps its any/all match toggle, Your tags keeps Manage. TagChip removed.
The ~14 hand-rolled "this is the selected/current/active one" idioms each
repeated the same `sel ? "bg-accent text-accent-fg border-accent" : "…"` inline
ternary, which had drifted. Three attribute-driven recipes in @layer components
now own that paint, keyed on the ARIA the control already carries: .pill
(aria-pressed segments/toggles), .is-current (aria-current nav/list items), and
.chip / .chip-solid (tag & filter tokens). The JSX just toggles the ARIA; the CSS
paints, so one control's selected look can't diverge from the next's. No
focus-visible in the recipes — the @layer base rule already rings every button/a.
Migrated 15 sites (Feed show/content, Channels tag filter, Sidebar or-and +
scope, PlexSidebar match, Tabs, SettingsPanel tab-rail, PlexPlaylistView layout
[soft], NavSidebar nav + settings, ActiveFilterChips, PlexSidebar RemovableChip,
ChannelTags, ChannelPicker). Deliberately left: PlexSidebar facet Chip and
PlexPlaylistView already covered; SavedViews row (paint split across two
elements), the scheme swatch (border-only on a coloured swatch), and
ChannelPicker's option rows (text-only selection) — noted for a follow-up.
The ~124 px-frozen text-[Npx] labels didn't track the Settings font-scale slider
while their rem-sized neighbours did. Add text-2xs (0.6875rem) / text-3xs
(0.625rem) font-size-ONLY tokens (no paired line-height -> matches the arbitrary
they replace, zero vertical-rhythm shift) and codemod every text-[Npx] to a rem
class (rare 8/9/12/13px -> rem arbitraries).
Also: --hdr-h 68px -> 4.25rem so header content clears the rem-sized pills at
scale 1.3 instead of sliding under; NavSidebar/SidePanel slot widths + their
icon/badge px sizes go rem so the rails keep pace with their (now-scaling)
labels; a w-24/h-[54px] thumb -> h-13.5 to preserve 16:9 at scale. Media
thumbnails, page-width caps and fixed container widths deliberately stay px.
Verified via getComputedStyle at scale 1.06/1.3: text-2xs 11.66->14.3px, header
clearance 72->88px, nav slot 246->302px — all scale proportionally.
Root-fixes the opacity-modifier seed bug behind R10 S0: the theme colors were
bare `var(--x)` hex with no <alpha-value>, so `bg-accent/40`, `ring-accent/40`,
`border-border/60`, `text-muted/70`, … (~99 sites across 45 files) emitted no
CSS rule at all — latent no-ops. v4 implements the opacity modifier via
`color-mix`, so the modifier now works with the existing hex vars, no per-scheme
token duplication needed.
- `npx @tailwindcss/upgrade`: `@tailwind` directives → `@import "tailwindcss"`,
JS config → CSS `@theme` (colors, --font-sans, the z-index tokens preserved),
classname renames (rounded/shadow/blur scale, outline-none→outline-hidden,
ring→ring-2) across 56 files; PostCSS plugin → @tailwindcss/postcss,
autoprefixer removed (v4 prefixes for you).
- `@theme` → `@theme inline` (load-bearing): the color vars are redefined at
runtime under html[data-scheme]/[data-theme]; inline resolves them at the use
site so per-scheme opacity tints track the active scheme (the shadcn v4 pattern).
- Revert one codemod false-positive: it rewrote the English word "rounded" →
"rounded-sm" inside a releaseNotes.ts prose sentence.
Gate green: tsc(app+node) / eslint 0-err / prettier / vitest 79 / knip.
Verified in-browser: bg-accent/15 now computes a scheme-tracking color at 0.15
alpha across all 6 schemes × 2 themes; the hand-rolled glass border/shadow/
radius/backdrop-filter render unchanged under v4.
Introduce lib/queryKeys.ts as the single source of truth for React Query
keys — the R7 driver was ~200 hand-written key literals across 51 files
(`["feed"]` alone in 15+), where one typo silently orphans a key so an
invalidate never matches.
S2a migrates the three highest-traffic domains (feed/video, channels,
playlists) plus the shared me/my-status/tags roots: ~90 literal sites in
18 files now call qk.*(). Pure substitution — each factory fn returns the
byte-identical array the call sites used before, so TanStack's prefix
matching is unchanged (qk.feed() still invalidates qk.feed(filters)).
Co-invalidation clusters are deliberately NOT bundled into helpers (they
differ per site), so no query's refetch scope changes.
Nullable keys (playlist(selectedId), ytSearch(q)) accept null so a null
segment is preserved (["playlist", null]) while a no-arg call is the bare
prefix key — guard is `!== undefined`.
Gate green: typecheck, eslint (0 err), prettier, 68 vitest. Smoke: app
boots, feed/facets/tags/my-status all 200, no console errors. Factory
extended to plex/messaging/admin/downloads/notifications in S2b.
Pick any number of channels; they OR together and every other filter applies
across the lot — "the last week's unwatched from these three".
`channelId`/`channelName` are replaced outright by `channelIds: string[]`, no
legacy reader (standing rule: no back-compat unless asked — a saved view written
against the old field simply loses its channel filter). The wire and the share
URL move with it: repeated `channel_ids` params, `?channel=a,b`. Backend ORs via
`Video.channel_id.in_()`; the count endpoint shares the same params object.
Two things the migration exposed:
- SavedViewsWidget fed DB blobs straight into serializers that now index an
array — the FeedFilters type says nothing about what an older build wrote, so
the blob is coerced where it enters. It white-screened the app before this.
- Chips carried channelName to label themselves. Without it they resolve names
from the channel cache, so they now fall back to the id, not a shared
"This channel" that would render N identical chips while the cache loads.
Channel page: the actions sat in the header's top-right corner, a page-width
mouse trip from anything else you'd click. There are only ever two tabs, so
they ride the tab row now, right next to About.
Channel picker: drop the 50-row cap — 320 plain buttons cost nothing to render
(the feed virtualises thousands), so the whole list scrolls in the same box. The
cap was caution, not a measurement. The box gets the app's usual edge-fade to
hint at more, and a line saying "Priority first, then A-Z" — the backend orders
by `priority DESC, lower(title)`, which reads as random to anyone who hasn't set
a priority.
The picker's list is a flex column with a max height, so its fifty buttons were
flex children free to shrink: each collapsed to ~12px and clipped its own text
into an unreadable smudge instead of the box scrolling. shrink-0 on the rows.
Colour, contrast (9.03) and opacity all measured fine — the height was the
broken part, and no colour check was ever going to see that.
`filters.channelId` was settable by exactly one thing: a "?channel=" URL from a
shared view. The panel still rendered a CHANNEL card whose only control was
"remove" — a remove button for a filter the UI could not apply.
Two ways in now. The panel gets a real Channel group (searchable picker,
first-class alongside date/tags/language, so the chip row surfaces it for free);
normalizeLayout appends it to saved layouts, so nobody loses their arrangement.
And a subscribed channel's page gets "Show in my feed", which applies the filter
and keeps the rest of your filters — the point is "this channel, the way I
normally read", which the channel page itself can't answer (it runs show=all,
scope=all over the whole catalog).
The picker owns its channel query so a few-hundred-entry list loads when the
panel is actually opened, not on every feed visit, and says "showing 50 of N"
rather than quietly stopping.
