The server gate ran node:22 while the dev gate ran node:24, and the two disagree about
Intl.NumberFormat's compact currency padding and about which realm's Blob a Response hands
back — so the frontend job had been red for 73 of its last 90 runs while the local gate was
green, and nothing said so.
Align everything on 24, with `.nvmrc` as the single source of truth: the CI container, the
prod build stage, `engines`, and `@types/node` (which was two majors ahead of the runtime, so
tsc was green over APIs the shipped engine does not have). The backend job's node only runs
the checkout action, so it tracks the pin as hygiene — node 20 is EOL — but deliberately
stays outside the contract.
The pin is held by a contract test that reads every one of those places AND the engine
running it, so the next drift is a red lane on its first run instead of a CI log nobody reads.
Verified on node:24-bookworm (the CI lane: 228 files / 1552 tests, typecheck, lint,
format:check, knip all exit 0) and on node:24-alpine (the prod build stage, v24.21.0, SPA
built). Each assertion of the new test was mutation-checked red.
Upgrade mode-3's 10-bit/HDR branch from "route to software libx264" (BUG 1's
behaviour) to a full-GPU pipeline: VAAPI decode → OpenCL tonemap (hable,
HDR10/HLG → bt709 SDR nv12) → h264_vaapi. Gen 9.5 (UHD 630) can't tonemap in
the VAAPI VPP (tonemap_vaapi fails), so OpenCL is the only HW route — proven on
the prod iGPU at ~4.2x realtime, ~1 CPU core.
- stream.py: `_select_encode` returns (hw, tonemap); a 10-bit/HDR HW-decodable
source picks the tonemap graph when the OpenCL runtime is present, else drops
to software. `_opencl_present` gates on a registered ICD. `_venc_opts` /
`_hwaccel_in_opts` gain the tonemap variant (named vaapi+opencl devices,
`-filter_hw_device ocl`, hwmap→tonemap_opencl→hwmap reverse). `_want_hw` kept
as the hw-half wrapper. The runtime HW→SW fallback still backstops a session
that emits no segment.
- Dockerfile: add the Intel NEO OpenCL runtime (intel-opencl-icd). It was removed
from Debian trixie, so it's pulled from bookworm (22.43 still supports Gen 9.5;
the .deb runs on the trixie base — verified live). Harmless without /dev/dri.
- route + FE: thread `tonemap` through the session response; the stats overlay
mode row reads "transcode · GPU · HDR→SDR" for the tonemap path.
- tests: tonemap command branch, the (hw, tonemap) selection matrix (auto/on ×
8-bit/10-bit × opencl), start_session tonemap wiring, and the fmtMode tag.
The runtime image ships ffmpeg with h264_vaapi/libva2 but no VA driver, so
h264_vaapi can't initialise and a Plex transcode silently falls back to
libx264. Add the iHD driver (intel-media-va-driver) so the UHD 630 iGPU can
hardware-encode once /dev/dri is passed into LXC 118 (host + compose side,
tracked in siftlode-ops). Harmless where no render node is present.
requirements.txt stays the source (floor ranges); requirements.lock pins the
exact resolved versions (generated in the python:3.12-slim prod base, extras like
psycopg-binary/uvloop included). The prod Dockerfile, Dockerfile.test and CI now
install the lock, so the image is reproducible and the versions are the ones
pip-audit scans. CI gains a non-blocking pip-audit step over the lock. The
frontend build + CI move from the EOL node 20 to node 22.
GIT_SHA/BUILD_DATE were stamped into an ENV at the top of the runtime stage, and
BUILD_DATE is a per-second timestamp — so that layer differed on every build and
invalidated everything below it. The ffmpeg/deno apt install and the full pip
install silently re-ran on EVERY build, and every layer got a fresh digest, so
docker push re-uploaded the whole image each publish. Moving the version stamps
to the end of each stage lets those layers cache and keep their digests.
Also: npm ci off the (previously uncopied) lockfile, BuildKit cache mounts for
pip/npm so a dep bump only fetches the delta, and COPY --chown instead of a
trailing recursive chown.
Measured on a one-line backend edit: 70s -> 7s, with ffmpeg/deno/pip/npm all
CACHED. Image contents verified identical (appuser uid 1000, /app + /downloads
ownership, ffmpeg + deno on PATH).
Prep the Download Center epic (Phase 1 + editor + share) for prod/self-host:
- Dockerfile: create /downloads owned by appuser so a named-volume mount is writable (prod Linux).
- docker-compose.{home,selfhost,yml}: add the 'worker' (yt-dlp/ffmpeg job loop) + 'bgutil-pot'
(PO-token) services + a downloads mount (DOWNLOAD_ROOT, WORKER_ENABLED). Media defaults to a
named volume; DOWNLOAD_HOST_PATH points it at a host dir (e.g. a Plex-readable folder).
- README / docs/self-hosting.md / .env.example / install.{sh,ps1}: document the Download Center,
the two extra containers, and DOWNLOAD_HOST_PATH.
- VERSION 0.22.0 + releaseNotes entry.
The web player clients need two things beyond the PO token: (1) a JavaScript runtime for
YouTube's 'n' signature challenge — install Deno (v2.9.1) + yt-dlp[default] (bundles yt-dlp-ejs
solver scripts); auto-detected on PATH. (2) an audio source — the web clients only expose
video-only DASH, so add the 'android' client (also PO-token-backed) for audio/muxed formats.
Player clients: web_safari,web,android (dropped tv — it falsely reports normal videos as DRM).
End-to-end verified in the worker: extraction (POT + Deno n-challenge) + download completes,
no bot/DRM/format errors. Full YouTube stack now: force-ipv4 + bgutil POT sidecar + Deno.
Make APP_VERSION come from the VERSION file (Dockerfile reads it for the SPA build
and ships it for the backend to read at runtime) instead of depending solely on a
deploy-time build-arg. This keeps the version correct even for a plain
`docker compose build` and removes the first-deploy bootstrap gap. git_sha/build_date
stay best-effort build-args.
Add a VERSION file (0.1.0) and inject APP_VERSION/GIT_SHA/BUILD_DATE as Docker
build-args (both stages; Vite inlines them into the SPA). New public GET
/api/version returns app_version, git_sha, build_date and the Alembic head as the
database revision. deploy.sh and the localdev build pass the args.
- requirements: cryptography >=46.0.7 (was pinned <46, which excluded the fix for
the CVEs pip-audit flagged in our Fernet/crypto library). pip-audit now clean.
- Dockerfile: upgrade pip before installing deps (patches installer-level CVEs).
- auth: /auth/upgrade now defaults to the least-privileged read scope; only an
explicit access=write requests the write scope.
- Vite + React + TS + Tailwind SPA served by FastAPI (multi-stage Docker build)
- Four color schemes (Midnight default, Forest, Slate, YouTube) x dark/light,
adjustable text size; persisted to user preferences and localStorage
- Header search, grid/list toggle, theme menu; sidebar filters (show state,
sort, include Shorts/live, language + topic tag chips with any/all matching)
- Infinite-scroll feed of video cards; click opens youtube.com in a new tab;
per-video watched / saved / hidden actions with optimistic updates
- SPA fallback routing; login screen for unauthenticated users
