- Uploads: one at a time per user and ten an hour, each refused only after its body arrived;
the history read an entry at a time (32 MiB cap), a Watch later list capped at YouTube's 5000,
a user's kept videos at 200k; any unreadable shape is a 422, not a 500.
- Quota: Watch later lookups stop at the backfill reserve and at a per-user daily share; what is
not asked about waits, known videos still go in, and the shorts job retries the rest.
- Staging and settling share one per-user advisory lock (no deadlock); a run settles only the
rows it read, so a row staged meanwhile is never called gone.
- A failed run's notice names a translated failure, never the upstream's text.
- The status says when an import is queued; the page watches it to its end even when left, then
reads the feed, its counts and the playlists again.
- Settings: one live region, the zone kept (unavailable) while a run goes, focus handed back,
a missed drop kept from the browser, an oversize file refused before it is sent.
- Scheduler and run lists show Takeout runs by the importing user.
A "YouTube history" section under YouTube access: the watch history and
the Watch later csv are dropped or picked (one request each, each file's
outcome said on its own), and the section then says what the import did
- only the counts it produced - or that it is running, failed or was cut
off by a restart. While it runs it asks again until it ends; a failed
re-read shows the failure, not the previous answer.
The drop zone the Files upload had inline is now ui/DropZone, used by
both. The e2e seed clears the account's kept Takeout videos.
- /auth/google/connect is a navigation and carries no headers: the tab names the account it
was built for in `expect`, checked by the same comparison as the request header
(built_for_another_account); a mismatch lands on /?account=changed
- the link marker names the OAuth state of its own flow: an older flow coming back no longer
spends the marker of the connect still open (which then returned as a plain sign-in)
- a 401 account_changed reloads the tab with a one-time flag, and the reloaded tab says it
now shows the account signed in
- a refused switch to a suspended or not-yet-approved account says so in the signed-in
app's words, naming the address a request was recorded for
- the prefs merge locks FOR NO KEY UPDATE, so a transaction that only added a row referring
to the account does not hold the save up; a test pins the lock
- giving up a lost page closes a channel page open over it
- e2e README names the chromium-only specs
A tab names the account it was claimed for on every request, beacon and upload
(X-Siftlode-Expect-Account); current_user and /auth/logout refuse a mismatch with
401 account_changed and keep the session, so a tab left showing the account
signed in before reloads instead of writing to the new one.
/auth/login clears a connect marker left by an abandoned connect, and a link
completes only on a session that still holds. The prefs merge reads the row
under a lock. A tab's sessionStorage records its own owner. A page the account
loses is given up, address bar and remembered page included. The panel layouts
are preferences; the storage contract also refuses a key handed to the Storage
API or to usePref outside its kind. A refused sign-in as someone else and a
failed sign-out say so. The chromium-only e2e specs are in the gate register,
the member walk waits for its requests, and devices.spec checks the save itself.
storage.ts's registry gives each key a kind (pref, device, view, cache,
public); a key without one does not compile. A contract test refuses a key
spelled out elsewhere, an account preference read or written straight from
storage instead of through usePref, and an e2e seed of a key nobody reads.
The keys the next account's wipe keeps are the public ones.
The seven preferences kept only in the browser move onto usePref: start on
Home, the onboarding dismissal, the release banner's last version, the
channel manager's layout, the Plex playlist layout, the playlist rail's sort
and channel discovery's sort. usePref reads an older bare-string copy, and a
value only this browser held is saved to the server once, so the account's
other devices get it.
Performance mode is the device's: it is neither read from the account nor
saved to it.
The per-tab account pin, the X-Siftlode-Account header and ?account= go: the session cookie alone
says who is asking. localStorage keys lose their account suffix; the browser records whose state it
holds (siftlode.owner), BootGate hands it to the account the server answered as, and a different
account starts from a clean slate (the public /watch keys stay). The first boot moves the account's
old per-account copies onto the plain keys and drops other accounts' copies. Until the claim, and
after another tab claimed the browser for someone else, the account helpers read and write nothing.
The account panel lists no other accounts: "Add another account" becomes "Sign in as someone else"
(Google's account chooser; the pick replaces this account, a cancel keeps it), shown where Google
sign-in is configured.
The suite ran only as an admin, so nothing end to end held what a member sees. A second seeded
account, a member with its own session, now walks every rail page (no admin entry, no admin call,
no error state) and follows links to the admin pages.
It found one: a member's link to an admin page showed the feed with no rail row current, and the
address bar kept naming the admin page — only the content fell back. The navigation state now
derives the page on screen through each module's gate (reachablePage), so the rail, the content,
the tab title and the address bar agree, on a link, a Back, and a role taken away mid-session.
- Seven looping pulses (a running job's dot, the scheduler's progress bar, a queued download, the
download tray, a playlist upload, a channel's full-history action, the setup wizard's test mail)
ran regardless of prefers-reduced-motion, which docs/DESIGN.md promises to respect: each is
motion-safe now, held by a contract test.
- The a11y suite's "settled" wait took every aria-hidden pulse for a loading skeleton, so the
Scheduler legend's running dot, which pulses for good, kept it waiting until it timed out. A
skeleton bone now says it is one (data-skeleton) and the wait looks for that.
The audit log, the server log and the admin quota view were three pages (the quota one a Stats tab),
each with its own filters, and the background runs had no list at all. Now one page ("Napló" /
"Activity") reads all four, each still its own table on the server: a shared bar (text, a period of
1 h to 90 days defaulting to 7, an account) and each tab's own filters, the whole view in the URL.
The old page ids open their tab.
Server side: the audit log and the new run list (`/api/admin/runs`) filter and page like the server
log, through one keyset helper (`routes/_keyset`) the log now shares; an audit row keeps the request
it was made in (migration 0111), so its log lines are a pivot away, as a run's are (`lrun`). The
quota breakdown takes since/until and one account. The Scheduler rows get a history button to their
job's runs.
Also fixed on the way: re-saving the value in force on the Configuration page staged its override
without committing it (the commit sat inside the audit branch), so the save was lost.
- A password reset or change, "log out everywhere" and a revoked untrusted password revoke all of the
account's API tokens too (audited): one minted from a stolen session no longer outlives the answer.
- A bearer token or link grant with a non-ASCII character is refused (401/403), not a 500.
- Making a token's grants or a folder link holds the folder, so a racing delete cannot fail the
foreign key; a link's view count is one atomic UPDATE.
- A folder link's card counts exactly the files its page lists (one `links.folder_files`).
- A file with no extension is served without a trailing dot.
- 0106's downgrade names a Hub folder so it never collides with one of the user's folders.
- The speed baseline reads share tokens through the app (the database keeps them hashed/encrypted).
- Tests: the token scope on the real session stack, the folder poster, the Hub refused for a link,
0106's downgrade data step, 0107 without a key; docs/comments follow (three folder kinds, folder
links, key change, the cleanup job's token warnings).
- A library past the list's cap is searched and sorted on the server; the count says "the newest".
- Each folder and each search opens on its first page (DataTable pageScope, useCardPager scope).
- A file dropped where the page takes none never reaches the browser (which would unload the app).
- The viewer's arrows wait while a layer opened from it is on top, and scroll a wide text line;
a text shows its first 5000 lines and says where the rest is.
- Confirms name the file (no more "your downloads"); the asking menu rows end in "…".
- The tray names a running step beside its bar, shows a pause mark for paused work, polls slowly
while only paused work waits, and forgets a finished file that was deleted.
- An unchanged rename sends nothing; a paste opens the download dialog only with nothing on top;
the link box never replaces what was typed.
- Honest states: folders that failed to load, a file no longer there, the storage figure; the rail
says "nothing downloaded" only when there is nothing.
- Focus after deleting the open folder and when the format form opens; the format name's label.
- ui/Meter (one danger line for both quota bars) and ui/RenameField in the platform layer.
- Copy fixes, stale comments and the speculative hub key; a contract test for the list's
parameters; e2e: the Files page and the paste intake.
On a Windows host a burst of test traffic can drop a loopback connect now and then (every port,
any program — measured on the dev desktop). The browser resends it and only waits; Node (libuv)
sends a loopback SYN once and fails at ~300 ms with "connect ETIMEDOUT". `e2e/retryConnect.ts` wraps
Playwright's request context so that one error is tried again (0.5 / 1 / 2 / 4 / 8 s, the system's
own retry waits) while every other failure goes straight to the test; global.setup's health check,
login and /api/me and speed.measure's share probe go through it. Unit-tested; e2e 61/61.
The 36rem floor guards the stacked layout's width/height feedback loop; the
wide side-panel card has no such loop, and on a short wide window the floor
made the video taller than the card, cutting off YouTube's control bar. The
floor now applies to the stacked layout only; e2e covers a 1400x380 window.
Two layout bugs since the player grew a side panel, both reported from prod.
Maximised (F) on a wide window, the video was a thin line across the screen: the side-panel layout
aligns the stage `self-start`, and Chrome applies a flex item's self-alignment to an absolutely
positioned box too, so the fixed stage took its content's height — 0 px. The maximised stage now
stretches between its insets whatever the layout asks of it.
On a short window under 1280 px (a laptop at 100%, a 1080p screen at 175%) only the side strips were
left: the card narrows so the chrome under the video fits, but that chrome grows as the card narrows
(its text wraps), and the loop ran the card down to 2 px. The video now never goes narrower than
36rem to make room; past that the card scrolls.
Measured before/after (localdev, real YouTube iframe): 1097×520 open 0×0 → 610×343; 1920×911 maximised
1920×0 → 1920×911; 1440×760 and 1366×650 maximised fill the window; leaving maximise restores the card.
Held by an e2e test at both sizes (red on the old code: 0 px wide, and 911 ≠ 0), green on Chrome,
WebKit and iPad.
The chat cut removed the only WebSocket and CI went before it, but comments still leaned on both:
`?account=` was justified by the socket, job polling by an in-process WS registry, the e2e flows as
"proxy-safe (none use the WebSocket)", and pyrightconfig named a CI container the engine contract
test never checked. Each now says what holds today (the wallet gate, no push channel, the two
contract test halves, the image build's `npm ci`, the gate).
The registration language is read today (preferences.language, the mail language); the Modal and
the players order against popovers through layerStack, not the FloatingTree; the upload's auth
dependency is current_user; the module of access tests covers onboarding and access, not only the
canonical email. The dev proxy's WebSocket upgrade served the removed messages socket and goes; the
test compose header says a pure-logic run needs SIFTLODE_TEST_REQUIRE_DB=0; the speed measure no
longer reports an unreachable database as "no share link".
The code cited its plan instead of saying why: `E28 review J4`, `(R6 S3b)`, `S1 justified…`,
`deep-review round 5`. That plan lives in the private ops repo, so for every reader of this one the
citation was noise, and a sentence whose subject was the plan step ("round 2 showed…") hid its
lesson behind an id. Each one is gone and the "why" kept: a bare citation is deleted, a sentence
carrying a lesson is reworded around it ("a later attempt showed…").
Measured (`scripts/audit_metrics.py`, product code): 652 lines in 270 files carried an epic code by
the definition the next commit holds (507 / 241 by the old, two-digit-only one) -> 0. Across all
code, tests, scripts and configs: ~1100 epic-code lines plus ~320 sprint/round ids.
Behaviour unchanged, checked mechanically: every changed .py file has the same AST once docstrings
are blanked; css/sh/toml/yml/json files are identical once comments are stripped; the only
non-comment changes in TS/JS are test titles, one description string in a contract table, and five
ESLint messages, whose text is all the gates snapshot diff holds. Not touched: Markdown (docs and
the changelog keep their history), Alembic migrations, TV episode notation (`S2 · E5`), DESIGN.md
ids (`C1`, `B4`, `S3h`), tracker ids (`SEC-16`, `DX-17`).
One stale claim fixed on the way: test_hls_reaper's docstring said the player checkpoints "every
10 s whether or not it is playing", which plex/stream.py calls wrong; it now says what the code does.
The demo account — one shared user that whitelisted emails entered from
the login page, reset on a schedule — goes end to end (owner decision,
E34): demo.py and the reset job, users.is_demo and demo_whitelist
(migration 0098 deletes the demo user, its audit rows, the reset job's
override and notices, then drops the column and table; the downgrade
restores the empty schema), the /auth/demo entry, the admin whitelist and
reset, the Demo tab, the banner, the login page's "Try the demo", and
every is_demo branch in routes, userscope, scheduler and the UI.
require_human only ever refused the demo account, so its 87 uses become
current_user (owner-approved); require_write_scope keeps its own check.
The login page's "or" divider now shows only beside the Google button:
without the demo entry under it, an instance without Google would have
said "or" to nothing.
A contract test (removedFeatures) fails on the word anywhere in the
backend, frontend, e2e or scripts — seen red on a planted hit. Size
ceilings tightened for the modules that shrank; admin.py is back under
the limit.
A card inside the viewport can still sit under the chrome above the scroller (the update
banner); the covered click made Playwright scroll and retry, moving the feed the scroll-restore
test then measured. webkit failed 3 in 24 before, 0 in 48 after.
E31 put the admin pages behind one rail row ("Administration", nav-admin)
that opens a panel. The spec still clicked nav-scheduler, nav-config,
nav-users and nav-audit as rows of their own, and timed out on every engine.
That went unseen from E31 to now because e2e ran in no required gate, the
exact hole E32 closes: the first run of the new release e2e step found it.
The rail test keeps the rail rows. A new test opens each admin page from the
panel and checks that the group row is current and that the reopened panel
marks the page. Seen red before the fix; the whole suite then passes, 52/52.
`npm run knip` now runs a second, --production pass, which asks whether the
code that ships uses an export, not just whether anything does. Of the 47
exports only tests reached:
- 34 are exported for their test and say so with @internal, naming the test.
- 11 were module-private names with a stray `export`. Two of them were not
used at all and are deleted.
- The unused alreadyReported re-export is gone.
Test kits, the e2e suite and the two build-tooling modules are excluded from
the production project, each named in knip.jsonc.
noUncheckedIndexedAccess is now on for the node and e2e tsconfigs too (0
errors), matching the app project. tsconfig.node.json listed a
tailwind.config.js that has not existed since Tailwind 4. That entry is now
playwright.config.ts, which the typed lint finds through this project.
The e2e asserted the channel chrome never moves; it folds once now. The
ui catalog lists scrollFold and progressiveRows, Tabs names the
per-tab memory its callers use, and the welcome note says a removed
language orphans its stored copies too.
The localdev e2e account's password was a hard-coded default in this public repo, so it
was never a credential. E2E_PASSWORD is now required; the ops wrapper exports it from
the secret store, and the seed/setup fail with a clear message when it is missing.
The Playwright net now runs every flow in three projects: chromium (Desktop
Chrome), webkit (Desktop Safari) and ipad (iPad gen 7 landscape: touch, mobile
viewport). WebKit catches the engine-level differences every iOS browser
inherits; the config and the README say plainly what it does NOT catch: iPad
media refusals. Playwright's WebKit decodes through the host OS, and on Windows
it played an mp3-in-mp4 and an AV1 mp4 that a real iPad refuses, so media
formats are checked on a real iPad against the dev stack over the LAN.
global.setup opts the e2e account out of starting on Home (the Startup setting),
which the feed, channel and player specs need since E24. It only takes effect
with the new-tab boot fix: before it, all twelve of those specs landed on Home
in every project. 49/49 green on :8080 across the three projects.
Second gate round over the full branch surfaced 4 verified findings (1 was a
regression the round-1 role change introduced); a 5th (--sbw load jump) was
dropped as refuted (the header only mounts after auth+data, so --sbw is set
before it ever paints).
- e2e (medium): the round-1 switch of FilterSelect rows from role=option to
menuitemcheckbox moved their state from aria-selected to aria-checked, but
the Playwright helper expectContentType still asserted aria-selected, so the
channel specs would fail whenever the e2e lane runs (not part of the fast
gate, so it stayed green). Assert aria-checked.
- a11y (low): the FilterSelect and SortControl pill triggers set
aria-label={label}, which overrides the visible "Label: value" text, so a
screen reader announced only the group name, never the current selection.
Carry the value (and, for sort, the direction) in the accessible name,
matching ViewSwitcher. Updated the unit-test trigger name queries to match.
- tests (low): cover the PageShell font-scale MutationObserver recompute path
(a post-mount root font-size change → --rail-pinned-w re-computes once, no
loop) — previously only the pre-render and resize paths were exercised.
Verified live: the triggers now announce e.g. "Sort: Date, Descending" /
"Watch state: All". Gate green: tsc (app+node+e2e), 373 vitest, prettier,
eslint (0 err).
- New ItemCount: a generic, FIXED-WIDTH count pill (glass, non-interactive) — "192,050 items"
(neutral noun, dynamic plural), min-w-[9rem] so a changing number never shifts the controls
beside it; a million or more collapses to "1M+" with the exact figure in the title tooltip.
- Feed toolbar: ItemCount is the fixed leading element now; dropped the mx-1 separators so every
gap is a uniform 1.5 (Content-types↔Source used to be wider than Watch-state↔Content-types).
- Chrome-to-card alignment (app-wide, via the shared Header + PageShell): the floating header and
the toolbar band now span exactly the card grid's width — left-4, and a right edge of
1rem + the scrollbar gutter (measured once into --sbw), so the fixed chrome lines up with the
scrolled cards instead of running ~15px past them. Wraps cleanly to multiple rows on mobile.
Renames the count testid feed-result-count → item-count (E2Es updated).
Adds a reusable FilterSelect: a "Label: value ▾" pill that opens a listbox (a checkmark
row for single-select, a checkbox row for multi), on the AnchoredPopover platform. It
replaces the two feed-toolbar chip walls:
- Watch state (single-select, default All) — picking a row replaces + closes.
- Content types (multi-select, default Normal; requireOne keeps at least one on) — rows
toggle and the panel stays open.
The trigger summarises multi picks as "First +N". The component is source-agnostic, meant
for reuse anywhere a small known option set currently renders as a chip group.
FilterSelect takes a `testId` → the trigger gets it, each option gets `${testId}-${value}`,
so the feed/channel E2Es keep stable selectors. They now open the dropdown and assert the
option's aria-selected instead of the old inline aria-pressed chips (new expectContentType/
toggleContentType helpers).
Three strictness flags that the codebase already satisfies (0 errors each):
- noFallthroughCasesInSwitch on src + e2e — a missing `break` is now a type error.
- noUnusedLocals + noUnusedParameters on the e2e project, so it matches src and node
and dead spec scaffolding can't accumulate (it was the one project without them).
- allowJs + checkJs on the node project, pulling tailwind.config.js and
postcss.config.js under the type checker (the last hole in C-4.5) — a real type
error in either is now caught (verified: `content: 123` fails; Config stays
permissive on plugin keys by design).
noUncheckedIndexedAccess is NOT here — it has 98 call-site fixes and lands as its own
reviewable sub-sprint (S3b).
The "Back restores the feed scroll position" spec failed against the production
build while the app was in fact correct. Root cause, found by instrumenting
PageScroller and comparing the baked :8080 build to live :5173:
`getByTestId("video-card-channel").first()` grabs the first card in the DOM, which
after scrolling 3000px is in the virtualizer's overscan ABOVE the viewport.
Playwright scrolls it into view to click it, moving the feed from 2879 to ~1017–1253
BEFORE navigating; PageScroller's save-on-scroll records that moved position, so Back
faithfully restores the moved position — under the test's own tolerance. A real user
clicks a card they can see, which does not move the feed.
New helper clickVisibleChannelLink() clicks a card whose bounding box is inside the
viewport. Restore now lands at ~2804 (was ~1017). 17/17 pass; stable over 3 reruns.
No app change — the scroll-restore logic was already correct.
Prettier 3 (pinned), printWidth 100, double quotes — chosen to match the existing
hand-formatting and minimise reflow. This commit is ONLY the mechanical format pass
(`prettier --write`) plus the config/ignore/scripts, isolated so it never pollutes a
feature diff. Verified behaviour-neutral: typecheck, eslint (0 errors), and vitest
all green before and after. See .git-blame-ignore-revs — `git blame` skips this sha.
Add feed-content-<key> testids to the toolbar's content pills and two channel
specs: the channel view inherits the feed's Live/Upcoming both ways, and a
content toggle made in the channel view does not leak back into the feed.
Reworks the channel detail per UAT: instead of the banner scrolling away
and a sticky sub-header (which felt odd to scroll and needed an opaque bar
that clashed with the design even at rest), the ENTIRE chrome — banner,
identity, tabs, toolbar — is fixed and only the video grid scrolls.
Mechanism: ChannelPage wraps its whole chrome in <PageToolbar> so it
portals into the shell's fixed band (like the feed toolbar); the
channelScoped Feed portals its toolbar into a slot at the bottom of that
chrome. No sticky, no opaque bar — the chrome is transparent over the page
bg because nothing scrolls under it (the band sits above the scroller).
E2E updated: the channel chrome (title + toolbar) stays at a fixed
viewport position while the grid scrolls. Suite 15/15, tsc clean.
Generalise the fixed-chrome pattern to the channel detail page: the
banner + identity now scroll away, while the tab row and the channel
feed's toolbar stick to the top as a sticky sub-header — only the video
grid scrolls.
Mechanism: PageToolbarSlot (the toolbar portal target) is now an exported,
overridable context. ChannelPage provides its own sticky sub-header node
as the target, so the channelScoped Feed portals its toolbar up next to
the tabs instead of into the shell's top band. Feed always portals its
toolbar now (the slot decides where it lands).
Also: the page scroller now fades only its BOTTOM edge — the top is
bounded by the fixed/sticky chrome, so a top fade only bit into it.
E2E: adds a lock that the channel tabs/toolbar stay pinned while the
banner scrolls away; suite 15/15 on :5173, tsc + knip clean.
The shell owns the scroller, so it owns the scroll policy. PageScroller
now takes a scrollKey identifying the logical view and keeps a per-view
offset in a module-level map, recorded live on scroll:
- same key returning (feed -> channel -> Back, filters unchanged) restores
where you were (bug 1) -- the feed's scroller unmounts, but the saved
offset survives and is re-applied, retried over a few frames so the
virtualized list has time to reach its full height;
- a new key (feed filters changed) starts at the top of the fresh result
set (bug 3). q is normalised out of the feed key so typing doesn't reset.
Recording on scroll rather than at unmount matters: by cleanup time the
scroller's scrollTop is already zeroed, so a cleanup-read saved 0.
Also fixes a Maximum-update-depth loop this introduced: the combined
element/fade ref was an inline callback, so React re-attached it every
commit and re-ran useScrollFade's state setter. Bound it with useCallback.
Adds E2E locks for bugs 1, 3 and 4 (restore on Back, reset on filter,
toolbar stays pinned). Full suite 14/14 green on :5173; tsc + knip clean.
The E2E account is now admin (matching the real primary user), so the nav spec
also drives scheduler/config/users/audit — exercising the render ternary's admin
branches, which the upcoming PageShell refactor will restructure.
Every Settings change now persists on its own (debounced ~500ms so a slider drag
is one PUT), with a small transient indicator; the draft/dirty-save UI and the
navigation leave-guard are gone. Also unblocks the navigation extraction — there
is no longer a cross-page "unsaved settings" guard to thread through routing.
Locks the five flows the refactor must not break (feed, channel, player,
settings, nav) so later sprints can prove they changed nothing. Adds a thin
data-testid layer and a dedicated seeded non-demo account; the suite runs on
the baked :8080 stack (authoritative) or :5173. No product-behaviour change.
