Both players get a scissors in their control row (Plex: the control row; YouTube: the actions and
the docked bar), `c`, and `[` / `]` to mark at the playhead. The clip panel lives in the player, so
the watched video is the preview: an overview of the whole item and a zoomed strip around the
selection whose ends are sliders (arrows step a tenth, Shift a second), Start / End fields with
nudges and "to the playhead", the length, a looping Play selection, a name, Cut. Escape closes the
panel before the player and the focus goes back to the scissors. A cut is a toast with a Downloads
link plus the usual Ready notification.
- ui/RangeTrack + RulerTicks: the shared, domain-free time track (regions, keyboard-steppable
handles with a 1.5rem hit area, a playhead, a background slot, over a window of the item). The
Downloads editor's cuts moved onto it, so they are keyboard-steppable now.
- lib/clipRange holds the marking rules (1 s to 10 min, the server's), lib/timecode the editing
timecode the editor's private tc/parseTc became.
- keymap: a symbol typed through AltGr answers its bare-symbol row - on the HU layout `[` is
AltGr+F, which arrives as Ctrl+Alt; letter and Mod rows still never match Ctrl+Alt.
- The YouTube stage sits in a wrapper with the panel, so the maximised stage's blur escape matches
at any depth.
- media-scope: fields on the always-dark player chrome read white in a light theme too.
The code cited its plan instead of saying why: `E28 review J4`, `(R6 S3b)`, `S1 justified…`,
`deep-review round 5`. That plan lives in the private ops repo, so for every reader of this one the
citation was noise, and a sentence whose subject was the plan step ("round 2 showed…") hid its
lesson behind an id. Each one is gone and the "why" kept: a bare citation is deleted, a sentence
carrying a lesson is reworded around it ("a later attempt showed…").
Measured (`scripts/audit_metrics.py`, product code): 652 lines in 270 files carried an epic code by
the definition the next commit holds (507 / 241 by the old, two-digit-only one) -> 0. Across all
code, tests, scripts and configs: ~1100 epic-code lines plus ~320 sprint/round ids.
Behaviour unchanged, checked mechanically: every changed .py file has the same AST once docstrings
are blanked; css/sh/toml/yml/json files are identical once comments are stripped; the only
non-comment changes in TS/JS are test titles, one description string in a contract table, and five
ESLint messages, whose text is all the gates snapshot diff holds. Not touched: Markdown (docs and
the changelog keep their history), Alembic migrations, TV episode notation (`S2 · E5`), DESIGN.md
ids (`C1`, `B4`, `S3h`), tracker ids (`SEC-16`, `DX-17`).
One stale claim fixed on the way: test_hls_reaper's docstring said the player checkpoints "every
10 s whether or not it is playing", which plex/stream.py calls wrong; it now says what the code does.
The player's settings tabs switched tab on an arrow and prevented its default, yet the player's
window listener still sought the video 10 s. dispatch() now skips a defaultPrevented key for
every scope; listNav's private copy of the same guard goes.
- SelectTrigger lays its toolbar value out as a row; the saved-view chip passes its glyph and
modified dot through the icon/trailing slots (an <svg> is display:block and broke the chip in two).
- One Escape in a dialog's open list closed the list AND the dialog: the list's close flushes
synchronously and pops its layer before the dialog's window listener runs. takeEscape() is the one
close-on-Escape test (topmost AND not yet taken); Modal, the Welcome lightbox and useLayer use it,
and keymap.dispatch ignores a taken Escape.
- /watch: the Download sits on the toolbar rung, level with the Repeat chip.
- AppCommandPalette had no test: modules gated by the account, hidden channels left out, the
playlist row selecting before it navigates, and the surprise riding setPage's `then`.
- keymap: an Alt/AltGr-modified key (Ctrl+Alt on Windows, a constant on the HU layout) fires no
bare-key or Mod row.
- Banner: the dismiss button falls back to "Close" rather than going unnamed.
- ShareDialog: a protected link's lit lock and Revoke's danger colour stay on the icon.
- Both playlist headers are rendered now: the YouTube one needed the toolbar slot it portals into.
Meta line sums known runtimes and treats an ABSENT duration as nothing (null never exercised the
guard: `3000 + null` is 3000); a one-row list offers no view controls.
E11 S5 — the HU/EN sweep and the keyboard-only pass over every module.
- The keyboard cheat sheet printed "Space" and "Menu" on a Hungarian sheet: a keycap that carries a
WORD (not a legend every layout prints alike, like Esc, Ctrl or Enter) is now named by the caller in
the reader's language (`formatChord(chord, words)`, `keys.cap.*`: Szóköz / Menü).
- The Plex player's ⌫/Esc line said "Stop & back to feed", but the player goes back to wherever it
was opened from (Home, a Plex page): "Stop & go back" / "Leállítás és vissza".
- Messages: the conversation list is a keyboard list (NavGrid + navItemAttrs, the name button is the
open element; the pop-out button keeps its own Enter). D1 covers every list whose rows open one
thing; this one was missed in S4. Notification cards have no single open action and stay out, like
the download queue.
Sweep, measured: every static `t("…")` key used in the source exists in both languages (the only
misses are template prefixes); the HU values equal to EN are proper nouns and loanwords (Admin, Plex,
Trakt, Shorts). Palette in Hungarian: "téma" makes "Téma: Midnight" the active row ahead of the channel
"Topik - mindig témában", live region "7 találat".
Keyboard-only pass in Chrome, Hungarian UI — 1024×768: every `g` chord lands on its module, `j` rings
the first item (solid 2px accent) on Home, Feed, Channels, Playlists, Plex and Downloads, `s` focuses
the search on Feed, Channels, Playlists and Plex, no page scrolls sideways. 3440×1440: `j` → → ↓
walks Home, Feed (8 columns: 0 → 1 → 9), Channels, Playlists, Plex and Downloads, no sideways scroll.
The help sheet lists every line translated; inside the Plex player "Szóköz / K" and "⌫ / Esc
Leállítás és vissza". Messages: a real `j` rings the row, Enter opens the thread.
S4's reachability half. Home already led the nav order; what was missing was every
way IN other than the rail.
- Settings → Appearance → Startup: "Start on Home", the documented escape hatch for
the landing override. Deliberately still localStorage and not a server pref —
`loadInitialPage` answers before /api/me lands, and a landing module decided after
the first paint is a visible jump. Its two stored values are now ONE exported
constant, so the writer and the boot-time reader cannot drift on a magic string.
- The command palette gets "Meglepetés" / "Surprise me": it navigates to Home and
rerolls the hero on arrival. No second "Mit nézzek?" row beside it — the Home
module row already matches that phrase through its descriptive title.
- A global Shift+W jumps to Home. A chord, not a bare `w`: the Plex player binds bare
letters and `w` sits on `s`, so a blind reach for the subtitle key would have thrown
a viewer out of the film.
The palette's request crosses a lazy module boundary, so it is a token that waits
(lib/homeIntent) rather than an event fired into an empty room. Browser-measured:
taken with a compare-and-clear, because StrictMode's double-invoked mount effect
otherwise rerolled twice and landed on the page two picks deep.
HU/EN parity kept; UAT on localdev in both languages, including the empty shelf.
Reaching a channel three modules away cost a rail, a page and a scroll.
Now it costs a keystroke and half a word: Mod+K searches modules,
channels, playlists, the saved views applicable where you stand, and the
app-wide actions.
Scope agreed with the product owner: navigation + actions, but only the
reversible local ones (the shortcuts sheet, the theme). "Sync from
YouTube" is deliberately absent — it is a long-running job against a
quota, it wants the progress and error surface the Channels page already
gives it, and one mistyped Enter is a worse failure than the walk it
would have saved.
Matching is word-wise and accent-folded, because this is a bilingual app
and nobody reaches for the accent keys in a hurry: "pod thevr" finds
TheVR Podcast and "penzugy" finds pénzügy. The arrows walk one flat
result list so crossing a group heading is invisible, and the field
carries the combobox/listbox aria tree that virtual selection needs.
ui/CommandPalette is domain-free (items are a prop, per the ui/ import
rule); AppCommandPalette supplies them. The shell is Modal again, with a
new `top` placement so a search-first dialog grows downwards instead of
jumping as results change.
Also fixes a bug the palette hit on its first run, and that PlayerModal
had already hit once: closing a dialog reclaims its Back-to-close
history entry with a programmatic history.back(), which undoes any
pushState made before it lands — so a command that navigates only closed
the palette. The rule is now closeThenNavigate() in history.ts with a
test, and PlayerModal's inline copy is gone.
The global `h` moves out of KeyboardHelp into useGlobalKeymap beside
Mod+K, so one listener owns the whole `global` scope and dispatch's
exhaustiveness keeps meaning what it says.
The Plex player had a shortcuts overlay nobody else did, so the YouTube
player's Space/F/arrows and the Plex browser's Backspace were documented
nowhere. ui/KeyboardHelp is that sheet for every surface, opened by a
global `h` - not the conventional `?`, which is a Shift chord on a
Hungarian layout, while `h` is the key this app's reader already has in
their fingers from the player.
It renders the shared table filtered to the scopes that are LIVE: a
surface registers its scope with useKeyScope while mounted, and only
while its keys really do something - PlexBrowse deactivates its own
scope inside the player, where its Backspace no-ops, so the sheet cannot
promise a "Back one level" the handler declines to perform. Same rule
for the `when` rows: ⇧←/⇧→ are listed only inside a series, an answer
the player publishes because the sheet cannot ask.
No new overlay primitive, after checking: Modal already portals into
document.fullscreenElement ?? document.body (so this works over a
fullscreen player), registers an Escape layer, traps focus and handles
browser Back. Third time this epic that the thing was already built.
Shift+F10 is in the table as `handledLocally` - documented and sharing
the chord parser, but matched by useContextMenu on the focused row.
dispatch neither routes it nor demands a handler for it, so the
exhaustiveness check stays honest about what it actually covers.
Also: A/S have cycled the Plex audio and subtitle tracks since E5, but
silently - the only way to see where you landed was to open the tracks
menu, the exact round-trip the shortcut exists to avoid. cycleAudio and
cycleSubtitle now return the track they moved to, and the player flashes
it over the video.
Six surfaces each owned a private keydown listener with its own key
literals and its own idea of "am I typing?", and they had drifted:
PlexPlayer matched `case "a"` without checking modifiers, so Ctrl+A
(select all) cycled the audio track, and its typing guard missed
<select> and contentEditable where the other two surfaces covered both.
lib/keymap.ts is a TABLE, not a dispatcher. Each surface keeps its own
listener and closures - PlexPlayer's refs are not worth re-plumbing -
but the chords, the modifier rules and the typing guard live in one
place, and dispatch() binds a scope's rows to handlers through a mapped
type, so a row without a handler (or a handler without a row) is a tsc
error rather than a comment someone forgets.
Matching is now exact on modifiers, which is what kills the Ctrl+A bug
and lets Shift+arrow be its own row beside the bare arrow. Escape opts
out of the typing guard (allowInInput) so it stays the way out of a
player's own subtitle-offset field.
The player's shortcut sheet renders helpLines() instead of a hand-copied
array beside the handler - the two used to be edited separately, which
is how a sheet ends up documenting a key that no longer exists. Labels
move to the new `keys` i18n namespace (EN + HU), and a test asserts
every row is named in both.
