A page used to be listed three times (lib/modules for its label, icon and gate; shell/moduleRegistry for
its page and rail; lib/pageMeta for its title), and App held every rail's layout and collapse flag.
Now each module's `module.ts` says it all — label, icon, gate, its lazy page and rail, its width —
handed out through its index.ts, and features/navigation/moduleRegistry lists them in nav order for
the rail, the palette, the tab title, the reachable set and the shell's render. A contract test holds
the registry to the page ids and each definition to its own folder, with no static import of a page.
Every rail is lazy now, loaded together with its page so a pinned rail never arrives after it and
shoves the content aside; the feed's and the playlists' rails took @dnd-kit off the boot path (boot
428.5 → 393.9 KiB gzip, the App chunk 122 → 32 KiB). A rail reads its own layout and collapse flag
(lib/useRail) and writes a layout change to the `me` cache too, since it now mounts anew on each
visit. App's session effects, its one-shot entry-URL handlers and the admin nudge move into shell
hooks; App is layout. The registry's three layer suppressions are gone: none is left.
The header's pills now arrive by portal after the shell has mounted, so the shell's one synchronous
measurement saw an empty header, and the ResizeObserver brought `--hdr-h` up a frame or more later:
meanwhile the content sat under the pills (the feed toolbar jumped 55px on a tablet; e2e caught it).
The measurement re-runs before paint whenever what fills the header changes.
The header used to pick its pills by `page === …` and import five module controls, and Plex's
Discover/Browse toggle needed a context bridge to reach the sub-view that lives in PlexBrowse.
Now the header is an empty band: PageShell hands its root box out as a slot, a page portals its
own pills into it (PageHeader), and the palette's Jump-to pill shows where no page does
(PageHeaderDefault, rendered inside the page's Suspense so a loading page shows no stand-in).
Plex's toggles take the sub-view as a prop; PlexViewBridge and its context are gone, and with
them the header's five layer suppressions.
No visible change: every header pill's box measured identical against the previous build on eight
pages, in Hungarian and English.
The guard's logic was a src/lib file the config project also listed. The app project, which
references the config project, then refuses that source on a clean build (TS6305) — while every
local run reused the referenced project's cached output and stayed green; only the Docker image
build failed. The logic is back inside chunkGuard.ts, its test beside it at the frontend root
(vitest now also collects `*.test.ts` there), and a gate contract fails when the config project's
include reaches into src/ again. The guard was re-proved on a build with a leaking re-export.
`local/layers` (eslint.config.js) resolves every import to its file and refuses one that goes up
(lib/ → components/ui/ → features/ → modules/ → shell/) or that reaches into another module's own
files. A module's index.ts is its public face: the stores, mounted at the root and read app-wide,
which features/ may read too; a page is still opened lazily by import(). Its contract test probes
every edge, and three mutants of the rule (off, no face check, a door for everyone) each turn it red.
Six modules got that face; the shared channel UI (about, tags, tag manager) moved to
features/channel, the filter chips and the saved-views context to features/filters, and the prefs
store's controller type moved next to the store instead of importing it from its own page. The
header's per-module controls and the eagerly loaded rails keep eight inline suppressions, each
naming why: they go when the header gets slots and every rail loads lazily.
`chunkGuard` fails the production build when a lazily imported module lands in a boot chunk (the
entry, the shell, what they import) — e.g. a page re-exported from an index.ts, which makes its
import() a silent no-op. Proved on a build with that mutant; today's build has none.
A pure move (git mv, history kept): 333 files leave components/, which now holds only the platform
layer (ui/) and the legal pages. The shell is the frame (App, header, nav rail, palette, boot); each
page lives in modules/<page>/ with its rail, store and tests; what several pages share sits in
features/<name>/; the shared-link page is watch/. Domain-free helpers went straight to ui/
(ViewSwitcher, FilterRail, the confirm dialog, the language switcher, the copy rows).
Every relative specifier was rewritten (imports, dynamic imports, vi.mock, new URL), and the
contract tests that scan sources now scan the whole app source, not only components/ — each glob
was counted before and after so none went green over fewer files. The locale-format rule matched
`/src/components/` only, so the move would have taken ~300 files out from under its i18n-singleton
check; it now covers every folder that holds components, with a test per folder.
Every address-bar writer glued `pathname + query`, so a path of `//evil.com/x` named another host:
history refused it (SecurityError) and the first nav mirror threw the app into its crash screen. One
builder, `hrefHere`, now makes the address from the URL itself and stays on this origin.
- /auth/google/connect is a navigation and carries no headers: the tab names the account it
was built for in `expect`, checked by the same comparison as the request header
(built_for_another_account); a mismatch lands on /?account=changed
- the link marker names the OAuth state of its own flow: an older flow coming back no longer
spends the marker of the connect still open (which then returned as a plain sign-in)
- a 401 account_changed reloads the tab with a one-time flag, and the reloaded tab says it
now shows the account signed in
- a refused switch to a suspended or not-yet-approved account says so in the signed-in
app's words, naming the address a request was recorded for
- the prefs merge locks FOR NO KEY UPDATE, so a transaction that only added a row referring
to the account does not hold the save up; a test pins the lock
- giving up a lost page closes a channel page open over it
- e2e README names the chromium-only specs
A tab names the account it was claimed for on every request, beacon and upload
(X-Siftlode-Expect-Account); current_user and /auth/logout refuse a mismatch with
401 account_changed and keep the session, so a tab left showing the account
signed in before reloads instead of writing to the new one.
/auth/login clears a connect marker left by an abandoned connect, and a link
completes only on a session that still holds. The prefs merge reads the row
under a lock. A tab's sessionStorage records its own owner. A page the account
loses is given up, address bar and remembered page included. The panel layouts
are preferences; the storage contract also refuses a key handed to the Storage
API or to usePref outside its kind. A refused sign-in as someone else and a
failed sign-out say so. The chromium-only e2e specs are in the gate register,
the member walk waits for its requests, and devices.spec checks the save itself.
CLAUDE.md's per-account state row becomes the browser storage rule: a key
in storage.ts with its kind, a preference through usePref. The
self-hosting guide says to set a password even when signing in with
Google, so a broken Google client does not lock the account out.
Performance mode's hint says it applies on this device only.
storage.ts's registry gives each key a kind (pref, device, view, cache,
public); a key without one does not compile. A contract test refuses a key
spelled out elsewhere, an account preference read or written straight from
storage instead of through usePref, and an e2e seed of a key nobody reads.
The keys the next account's wipe keeps are the public ones.
The seven preferences kept only in the browser move onto usePref: start on
Home, the onboarding dismissal, the release banner's last version, the
channel manager's layout, the Plex playlist layout, the playlist rail's sort
and channel discovery's sort. usePref reads an older bare-string copy, and a
value only this browser held is saved to the server once, so the account's
other devices get it.
Performance mode is the device's: it is neither read from the account nor
saved to it.
The per-tab account pin, the X-Siftlode-Account header and ?account= go: the session cookie alone
says who is asking. localStorage keys lose their account suffix; the browser records whose state it
holds (siftlode.owner), BootGate hands it to the account the server answered as, and a different
account starts from a clean slate (the public /watch keys stay). The first boot moves the account's
old per-account copies onto the plain keys and drops other accounts' copies. Until the claim, and
after another tab claimed the browser for someone else, the account helpers read and write nothing.
The account panel lists no other accounts: "Add another account" becomes "Sign in as someone else"
(Google's account chooser; the pick replaces this account, a cancel keeps it), shown where Google
sign-in is configured.
/auth/link and /auth/upgrade become /auth/google/connect?access=identity|read|write: one handler, one
table of what each access asks Google for, the same callback markers. An unknown access is refused
(422) instead of quietly meaning read, and an instance without Google answers ?link=error for a
grant too, not a silent return to the app. The frontend builds the URL in lib/googleConnect, and a
contract test holds it to the backend route and its access values.
The session held a wallet of up to six accounts, and a request picked one by a header or an
?account= parameter. It now holds one: user_id and its epoch. A sign-in replaces whoever was
signed in, sign-out and account deletion end the session, and an account refused mid-session
(revoked, suspended, deactivated) clears it. /api/me/accounts and /api/me/switch are gone, and
with them their refusal codes and the UI copy for them.
A cookie the multi-account build wrote carries no single epoch and is refused: its holder signs
in once more. A Google link finishing in a browser now signed in as someone else is refused, as
before for an account outside the wallet. A test holds that no app code reads the wallet keys or
the account header again.
The suite ran only as an admin, so nothing end to end held what a member sees. A second seeded
account, a member with its own session, now walks every rail page (no admin entry, no admin call,
no error state) and follows links to the admin pages.
It found one: a member's link to an admin page showed the feed with no rail row current, and the
address bar kept naming the admin page — only the content fell back. The navigation state now
derives the page on screen through each module's gate (reachablePage), so the rail, the content,
the tab title and the address bar agree, on a link, a Back, and a role taken away mid-session.
The test's own writes are committed before a request, so a handler's Core DML can no longer hide
in a transaction the test had already opened. The entry-point probe answers on a marked line the
API's logging cannot mix into. A listed commit whose function no longer commits fails the fence.
CLAUDE.md and the backend README now name what an AST cannot see; the route-commit tests no longer
claim their read-back holds the commit.
A season marked watched, a pull from Plex and a YouTube resume point made their first row by a read
then an add, and failed on the unique key when a first checkpoint or the watched mark made it in
between. They go through the same insert-then-read as the checkpoint (the resume point is one
upsert); a pull that meets a local change still waiting for its push leaves it.
Folding duplicate Watch later lists moved their videos but not a Home pin, which the cascade then
deleted; the first pin of a dropped copy moves onto the kept list.
Marking one notice read trimmed before its own flag was flushed, so the trim left one past the cap.
The route test now crosses the cap and reads the result from a session of its own.
Each handler that now calls a service and commits is driven through HTTP once.
A second account's watch state, Watch later list and private download profile
are never read or changed. The autotag job's orphan prune is seen committed.
The first checkpoint of an item and the final flush beside it both read no
state and both inserted; the loser failed on uq_plex_user_item. Two first saves
each made a Watch later list. Both are created by an ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING
insert and then read; a partial unique index holds one Watch later per user, and
the migration folds an existing second list into the first. Plex keeps one
per-item state map (rollup.item_state_map).
The owner-filter check missed an aliased() model, an import alias, .in_() and
filter_by; four live inline filters on aliased VideoState go through owned_by now.
Cross-unit writes are seen under any import name, through sa.update and via
__table__. Core modules may commit only where CORE_COMMITS names the reason;
trim_read and audit.gc flush now and their callers commit. The pin target, the
debug-session header and a link's target fetch through owned_row. The docs
claim what the fence holds, and say what is beyond it.
A db.execute(update/delete) fires no flush and stages nothing, so a handler whose
only write was Core DML could forget its commit and stay green. The check now
asks Postgres whether the request opened a writing transaction. It found one
real case: a repeated issue send returned with the session row still locked.
The models now live in their units' packages, and a core model names a unit's by
string (User.subscriptions -> Subscription). The download child imports neither
catalog nor app.tables before db.get, so mapper configuration failed and every
download, clip, edit and upload job died with child_exit. Each entry point now
imports app.tables, and a test imports each one in a clean interpreter.
The per-file pin list and the unit-by-unit switch go: every route file is held
to zero database work, every unit's package to its edges, and core code says
whose a row is through userscope too. CLAUDE.md, the backend README and the
gate register describe the units as they now are.
Tokens, notifications, quota, debug sessions and the reset-link burn filtered
their owner inline. Ten of the fifteen filters had no test that noticed one
going missing; each now has a test where another account's rows must not
count, show or change.
The last Plex HTTP files do no database work of their own, so ALLOWED is empty: no route builds
SQL, touches the session or a unit's table. Discover's rails move whole into plex/discover.py; a
user's playlists, watch-state writes (the race-safe finish, an early checkpoint, a status, a
season or show at once) and the watch-sync link go through plex/queries.py and plex/service.py.
The plex package joins FENCED: it reads no other unit's tables, says whose a row is through
userscope (the rollup and the watch sync's 8 inline filters moved to owned_by), and commits only in
its named jobs — the library sync, TMDB enrichment, the watch sync and its background pushes.
A playlist's has-item probe keeps the plain key lookup, so a NUL in it is still the 422 a test pins.
Pins 178 -> 0; basedpyright baseline 118 -> 106.
The HTTP files browse, detail, people, collections and _shared do no database work of their own
now. New plex/queries.py (the rows a page shows, a user's watch state through userscope),
plex/service.py (the info pages' enrichment, a collection's editable flag, the row kept after a
failed follow-up read, the person bio's background fetch; none commits), plex/library.py (the
unified browse feed, its search and facets) and plex/collections.py (a collection's source,
editability, card, certificate and member order). Every watch-state join in the moved code names
its owner through owned_by.
Pins 354 -> 178 in 4 files; basedpyright baseline 132 -> 118.
PlexLibrary, PlexShow, PlexSeason, PlexItem, PlexPerson, PlexCollection, PlexState, PlexLink,
PlexPlaylist and PlexPlaylistItem leave app/models.py for app/plex/models.py; app.tables registers
them. Every import is re-pointed; no schema change.
Channels, search and sync do no database work in their routes any more: reads go through
catalog/queries, writes through catalog/service, and a live search's ingest is catalog/search.
What a catalog route needs from Reader (a playlist's channels, a user's tag links, the feed
projection of results) it asks reader/queries and reader/service. The scheduler and the runs page
read channel titles and the work queue through catalog/queries. Catalog is fenced below its HTTP
layer: its owner filters go through userscope, it reads no other unit's tables, and its ingest
jobs commit only where they are named.
Channel, Subscription, Video, SearchFind, ExploredChannel and BlockedChannel (and LIVE_OR_UPCOMING)
leave app/models.py for app/catalog/models.py; app.tables registers them. The User↔Subscription
relationship names its other side as a type only. No schema change.
A reorder's left-out item, a playlisted video beside one not asked about, another user's tag, and
the user's own channel link committed before the auto-tagger reads the table.
Feed, playlists, saved views, tags and the Home pins do no database work in their routes any more:
reads go through reader/queries (and feedquery for a feed page, its counts and facets), writes
through reader/service and discover/pins, which flush; the handlers commit. Reader is fenced below
its HTTP layer too: its owner filters go through userscope, and the catalog's jobs ask Reader
instead of joining its tables (the auto-tagger's system tags, the cleanup jobs' keep rule, the
maintenance notice). A playlist sync's catalog ingest moves to sync/videos.
VideoState, Playlist, PlaylistItem, SavedView, ComfortPin, Tag and ChannelTag leave app/models.py
for app/reader/models.py; app.tables registers them. No schema change.
Capture's routes (downloads, files, public watch links) and the token list no longer build SQL, call
the session or set a model's fields: reads are downloads/queries, writes the unit's service (service,
folders, links, quota), and each write flushes for the handler to commit. Whose a row is goes
through userscope (owned_by, owned_row), which owned_or_404 now uses too.
The fence holds Capture below its routes as well: it reads only Catalog's and Plex's tables, writes
no other unit's, filters owners through userscope and commits only in its jobs and the upload
ingest. A test per service use case, among them that the tray lists only the caller's files.
The nine Capture tables (files, jobs, folders, shares, links, quota, cookies, profiles, library
resume points) leave app/models.py for the unit's own module; app.tables registers every unit's
tables for the migrations, the test database and the ownership check. No schema change.
The fence is switched on unit by unit: each route file's database work (SQL built, session data
calls, model attributes set, unit tables imported) is pinned at today's count and may only shrink.
A core route may not reach into a unit's tables. Every model has an owner.
- Seven looping pulses (a running job's dot, the scheduler's progress bar, a queued download, the
download tray, a playlist upload, a channel's full-history action, the setup wizard's test mail)
ran regardless of prefers-reduced-motion, which docs/DESIGN.md promises to respect: each is
motion-safe now, held by a contract test.
- The a11y suite's "settled" wait took every aria-hidden pulse for a loading skeleton, so the
Scheduler legend's running dot, which pulses for good, kept it waiting until it timed out. A
skeleton bone now says it is one (data-skeleton) and the wait looks for that.
- The scheduler keeps one registry of the runs this process has open, for the interval jobs and the
ad-hoc runs alike. A row the table still says is `running` but no run here has open (its outcome
failed to write) reads as interrupted, as the next start's sweep will close it: no pulsing dot
beside "No run recorded yet".
- Migration 0109's downgrade sums a still-running run's quota events into its spend before the link
to them is dropped, as the startup sweep would.
- A test holds that a dialog closing onto the same address leaves an open log line open.
- The channel-backfill row says "running" from the runs this process has open, not from the table:
a row whose outcome failed to write no longer reads as running until a restart. The run still
going leads the row, so a newer run's outcome never sits under the older one's channel.
- Migration 0109's downgrade carries every run's trigger, spend and start in the audit row, and the
upgrade restores them: a manual run whose admin was deleted stays manual.
- Back/Forward is read by the page's one popstate listener, both halves in one render; the server
log adopts its half during that render, so no read goes out with one entry's filters and the
other's range.
- The server log's failed facets use the other tabs' words (the menus may be short); the accounts
message shows only when the menu really lacks them.
